I've done a bit of due diligence, and searched the forums and web, but have come to a roadblock. I have 3 modems (K3772-Z - only one which works works, but has spikes and issues, and K3770, E156). I am trying to see if my K3772-Z is faulty (it runs hotter than other modems I've felt, I'd say ~70°C, and I get a faint smell of plastic burning), but I can't get the others to work on my win7 64bit PC.

I found the firmware upgrades and other downloads for the E156 on DC-files (http://www.dc-files.com/files/huawei/modems/E156/), but the K3770 is not listed on the ZTE side.

However when I try to install the firmware it doesn't find the modem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am on vodacom, dunno if that makes a difference.

The ZTE modems are horrible modems! Unless you have perfect signal, they hardly never work. I've been through my fair share of ZTE modems, and I always return them and ask for the Huawei equivalent.

Your K3770 - is that a ZTE modem or a Huawei modem, as you didn't put the -Z at the end of it, so I'm thinking it is a Huawei modem.

I know a while ago there were issues with the Vodafone modems and Windows 7 64-bit OS. There was a separate driver one had to install to get the modems to be recognised properly, but this was all addressed in the latest versions of Vodafone Mobile Broadband. So my suggestion would be to try the latest version - 10.3.210.41379 is listed on Vodacom's website. This is the latest version which also supports Windows 8.

The problem is that windows the OS does not recognise the devices, afaik the device manager does not even see a device that is unknown, it simply doesn't see it.

Sell the lot of 'em off at Cash Crusaders (or some pawnshop) and purchase a good, new one with the money.

Yes it was a problem with 64-bit drivers. The new Vodafone software has updated 64-bit drivers that address the problem.
