A lovely building built with your pension/policy money. Imagine if they gave you the returns you should have gotten instead of building a massive abomination like this because they have small d1ck syndrome.

So you're against them because they ran a successful business operation?

I think that this building will be very good for CT, as an upcoming international metropolitan city, it currently doesn't have the most impressive buildings. The biggest difference which I notice when visiting other cities is how high their buildings are compared to ours. Compared to the big cities, CT looks like a flat, small town.

I've recently been to CT. It doesn't look like a flat, small town to me. It looks better than JHB central at least.

Skyscrapers are overrated. I like the South African way of building - flat on the ground. I lived in Sao Paulo for 3 months and all those huge buildings start to get to you.

Wow, the tallest building in Slaapstad. So it's going to be, what, 7 stories?

How did you miss the big lump of rock?

Happy to live in a small city, as opposed to sprawling glass and concrete edifice to the stupidity that is mankind.

would all the Nimby's please leave. The City of Cape Town isn't simply approving all high rises but working towards improving density and bulk. The City has also approved a Tall Buildings policy and panel to review each new tall structure proposed.

Strand on Adderley Towers are in planning. Two 26F structures to act as a gateway to the city from the Station end.

I love how South Africans are negative about absolutely everything.

"Oh this country is so ****, we don't have any infrastructure". Along comes government and builds Gautrain. "Oh this country is so ****, they're wasting all our money on stupid infrastructure".

"This country is so ****, we don't even have any proper skyscrapers. Why can't CT look more like Sydney or something. I'm moving to Australia!". Along comes Old Mutual and builds a new skyscraper. "This country is so ****, they're building abominations that block the sea view everywhere".

Grow up. It's called development and we need it.

What nonsense.

The Gautrain is the WRONG sort of infrastructure - buses would have been better.

And who ever said CT needed huge high rises? Want a big building? Go build it in Bellville - why do you need to build it in an area where views are so pretty?

Rea Vaya BRT Phase 1 ready June 2009. The second phase ready May 2010.
CT doesn't need huge high rises but have you seen how ridiculous our density figures are? We can't afford a future of 1 storey buildings eating up land.

Tall buildings need improved infrastructure, not just roads but electrical and transport. Exactly why the city has conducted a full study into these needs and has documented them as part of its Tall Buildings policy.

For example the Portside building went through an extensive process involving wind study tests, traffic assessments, heritage assessments etc etc etc. Its about finding the correct height to achieve greater density which we need but still not attempting to become a high rise city.

34F and 26F is not a a ridiculous height that stands out above other buildings.

I suggest those that speak with some clarity on the issue contacts the City of Cape Town to get its Tall Buildings Policy and related documents if possible.

If you want to be NIMBY's, go to Perth.

Cape Town CBD is crowded? lol.

What new roads do you need? The inner city bus system will be in place soon along with the half a billion rand Cape Town station upgrade. The impacts on infrastructure has been documented and is being dealt with as each new building is reviewed.

Dump all tall buildings on the Foreshore/

I seriously don't have a problem if they want to start building new skyscrapers- as long as they're located on the Foreshore- it certainly does need development and its not culturally sensitive. Plus there's lots of space there.

Another place that certainly needs some development/beautification is Bellville...its a f@ckin dump, if they decided to nuke the area around the station no-one would miss it.

Like what's been happening in the Claremont CBD area allthough I can imagine the traffic is an absolute b!tch during construction of the roads and apartment buildings.
