Hey okes,

Havent posted in this section is ages.

So I'm heading back to SA in Sep and brought my bro some pc components to upgrade his (my old) pc system.

What he has now:
Antec modular 430w psu
E4300 @2.4ghz
250gig 7200 HDD
HD3850 AGP
2gig DDR400

What I got him
500 red star psu 18a dual 12V rail
Q8200
1TB hdd
HD6850
8gig DDR3 1600 - Kingston OC ram

It costed 3k roughly

Anyways I think it should run Mass effect 3 pretty well on 1280 X 1024 resolution

What I need is, some experience with OCing the Q8200 with DDR3 1600

Do I just set ratio to 1:1 and up FSB to 400? Havent OC'ed a machine in like 5 years....the last OC I did was the E4300 with copper conductive paint hehe.

Any suggestions will be good, gonna test the machine here first before bringing it back in Sep.

Thanks

Little bit at a time. Check stability under load, rinse, repeat. Put up the voltage a tad if it's unstable. Also check temps. It's arduous, I know. But worth it.

Yeah, just crank up the FSB to 400, and I think set the ratio to 1:2. Since you want the ram at 800Mhz (it's dual rated).

However, whether or not you'll notice a difference, I think that's unlikely... (although, BF3 saw a nice 5FPS jump when I went from 2.3GHZ to 2.8 :P).

also, such a mild overclock means you should have to struggle too much with voltage. I was 100% stable, no volt increase :D.

Well I did have an aftercooler on it, not sure what it was...coolermaster something....looked like a little tower.

Well I'm not into gaming anymore, but my 18 year old bro is still digging it, the old E4300 + HD3800 AGP doesnt seem capable enough for mass effect 3 and whatever else he was complaining about on the phone.

Thanks for the info guys, brings back memories

So I got all the parts and got the rig running with a 24" monitor

I am play Starcraft 2 on all high setting and texture on ultra, still getting more games to download. Not bad for something so cheap.

One thing though, the fsb wall on this cheap G43 mobo is 361 so I could only OC the Q8200 to 2.53ghz

Think anyone will wanna swap their Q6600 with my Q8200 or is that wishful thinking?
