Remember NFS 2? And NFS 4? They were great. Especially NFS 2's maps. (Images of my car falling off mountains keep popping up). Can't we combine all that? I'm sure that building an open source racing game can't be that hard...

Then just imagine, the old NFS maps combined with NFS MW's engine, and some creativity... boom. You'll have a legendary racing game. The open-world-map idea is good, but its not that great. The variety of Racing in AUS Outback and Some Mountain in the Alps is way better...

My most favourite map of all NFS's was Alpine in NFS1 ... I would take the black Diablo and race flat out over the 2 hills in the road. The 1st would always lift you a little and the 2nd give you quite a bit of air.

What I would do just before the 2nd hill is throw a handbrake turn which caused me to klap a 360 in the air :D

I severely disliked the vehicle models of NFS2

I never played NFS1...
But NFS2's maps were just awesome. And how crashing into a hot-dog stand can ruin your race.... lol

The first installment of the NFS was one of only two serious attempts by the series to provide a realistic simulation of car handling and physics without arcade elements (the other being Porsche Unleashed). Electronic Arts teamed up with automotive magazine Road & Track to match vehicle behaviour, including the mimicking of the sounds made by the vehicles' gear control levers. The game also contained precise vehicle data with spoken commentary, several "magazine style" images of each car interior and exterior and even short video-clips highlighting the vehicles set to music.

Another version of the game, called The Need for Speed: Special Edition, is based on the 1995 PC release of the game, and was released only for PC CD-ROM in 1996 It featured support for DirectX 2 and TCP/IP networking, two new tracks, and various enhancements in the game engine.

Sounds fun.

Need for Speed XIII (2009)

When talking about Undercover, John Riccitiello, Electronic Arts CEO, also confirmed a thirteenth Need for Speed title is under development. The development of this title started after ProStreet.

Wonder if this one will be great...

I'm currently playing NFS Undercover on XBox360 and I'm really enjoying it. Very similar to Most Wanted.

NFS:SE was by far the best NFS ever. NFS II came close to that, but nothing beats the feeling of driving that purplish-blue Dodge Viper along the coastal tracks in NFS:SE. It was just pure awesomeness.

At the trend they are going now, I don't think so. :D

You're probably right...

I wonder if it's possible to get the info on the old NFS games from EA. The Map Drawings, data on cars...ect. Then you can really rebuild the classics on a better engine. It can't be that hard if it takes EA 6 months to write a NFS game.

ive got nfs: hot pursuit iinsalled, neone wanna play multiplayer

We use to LAN NFS 2 only played the Outback track. Best racing game ever to LAN. They also had the option catchup in case your crash you can still catch up to the leader.

Great stuff

I absolutely loved NFS2, drove the XJ220 off many mountains! :D

Even then I found the vehicle model a bit odd, though, but NFS2 got me addicted to the NFS franchise. Oddly enough, never really played it again until UG & UG2, also tried Porsche Unleashed, but prefer a selection of cars. Enjoy HP & HP2 with the cops and everything.

My second favourite game in the franchise is MW, even replayed it a bit when I upgraded my system. Finished it eventually with a seriously modded DB9.

Played a demo of Carbon, and saw ProStreet in action at a friend's house. Might give Undercover a go if it's similar to MW.
