Old second hand car prices.

I won't pay R95k for it but oh boy, it makes some of these newer cars look very ridiculous.

Fully agree. You still getting a lot of car for that money compared to a steering wheel and crate to sit on which is essentially what a lot of the older cars asking for crazy prices are.

Pretty but terrible to drive. That transaxel gearbox makes the shift horrible.

Those wheels also aren't right.
Yes, I agree that the wheels look really crappy, and that you'd seldom find a GTV with a working 2nd gear synchromesh, also rust was a huge issue, and the electronics were a bit of a lottery. But none of that prevents nostalgic people from buying them in order to relive the essence of the 80's. And you have to admit that the 2l motor was very, very good.
Here's Jeremy Clarkson's 2.5 V6 which illustrates my point (and aligned with the topic), apparently cost 18000 GBP.

Edit: The same vehicle featured on Harry's cars, he indicates that it belongs to "a farmer friend up the road"

the owner of this dealership is in our subaru group.Lets just say his prices are "very competitive".He was selling a 2006 wrx sti for around +- 375k which is expensive. Those cars usually go for 140k to 250k.
My guess is with dealerships like this is that they must have had success selling at these prices before. As indicated, there is always a sucker out there with some money.

Inflation + some of those cars are actually quite scarce these days, especially in anything like a decent condition.

Correct, most likely to the export market. Had a client that bought up old "classics" locally and exported them. Did quite a lot of mk1 and 2 escorts at the time.

Some of the prices that peple think their cars are worth is made up of hopes, dreams and unicorn farts like that Cortina bakkie for R120K. In 1986 when I was 16 I bought a Ford Capri V6 for R900 and over 2 years rebuilt it to look brand new. After the army about 1991, I was at the Piston Ring club with it one Sunday and someone offered me R60k for it. When I eventually sold it in 2000 I got 4 times that.
