OLED VS LCD

Ok so if i were to buy a TV, The Samsung LA46A550 (Full HD 1080p) from Makro for R21 999, the Sony KLV-40S400 (Full HD 1080p) for R12 999 or a FULL HD PLASMA in the same league as these two. Which one would i go for and why?

i saw the LA46A610 at Dion Wired for R19999 so thats the newer model and 2grand less so seems like a good deal compared to the A550 above?! other then dimmensions and one extra hdmi input i cant see any differences on the samsung site...
For R19K u can get the LA40A650, its smaller but has a slightly better response time and a 100HZ processor, dont know if that makes any difference??

Ummm, yes they can since they're using Samsung panels.

And I've owned both, and currently prefer Sinotech over Samsung.

I'm going to call you on that. Please provide a credible source. I've seen it mentioned many times by posters on MyBB, and I call bullsh !t. Prove me wrong.

hmmmm... I'm so Samsung fan, but I think you're sipping the Jesus juice a bit much. At the same price Sinotec is bigger, sure. But better? I'd definitely go with a R20K 46" Samsung 6 series over a Sinotec 46".

I spose it boils down to personal opinion.. I find Sinotech screens better... and yes, the price does come into the equation of course, but if it doesn't then the comparison stops being a real-world one.

I will see what I can find about Sinotech using Samsung panels.... I'm sure I've seen it on the web before.

OLED generally will have a wider colour gamut and better contrast. However, you can already have that and in full HD with a plasma TV.
Even the Jesus-Kuro doesn't have 1,000,000 to 1 contrast ratio... or a 0.01ms response time.

OLED is superior in terms of colour gamut (Plasma isn't better than LCD really).

Results and Conclusions

At least three of the test plasma TVs were able to achieve better than 75% of the REC-709 HDTV color gamut, with one TV exceeding 80%. This performance is equivalent to a typical CRT TV. The remaining two sets were able to achieve nearly 70% of the REC-709 HDTV color gamut.

...With [Colour Space] set to “Standard“, the primary colour points (... on a Sony LCD TV...) were as close as they come – remember this is achieved out-of-the-box without any colour management system (CMS) available – to HD Rec. 709 specifications

The real problem with OLED is size and price. At present they're not big enough to compete, and if they were they'd be too damn expensive. Lifespan of the blue "phosphors" is also a concern but seems to have been overcome.

Same here.

I've seen Sinotech and Samsung together, absolute BULL if you say Sinotech is better or the same.

Besides Samsung doesnt endorse its panels cheaper then themsleves

The salesman at Makro told me the story that the Samsung and the Sony used the same panel but filters on the Sony gave it a better contrast ratio and the processors were better on the Sony.
He also mentioned that the Chinese Sinotech used the same panel, but I've no way of disputing this.
I went with the Sony in the end because to me the picture appeared best when compared to the other two mentioned.

Simple. for your budget if you want 42 or over get a Plasma anything under, get LCD.
HD ready is fine. Get 2 HDMI ports for DVD upscaling and DSTV. By the time you need full HD, the TV you buy now will be like an Atari computer, you won't be able to give it away.

Who supplies 42" screen without a TV tuner? Want to use it primarily on a computer media centre.
Oh, and what spec do one need for a screen like that? 2ms responce / 30 000:1 / ??

So if i have a FULL HD tv and i 720p TV,using a blueray player and DSTV HD there would be no difference in quality between the two tv's?

The panel used on the Sony and the Samsung is the same. The difference is the video engine. I doubt that Sinotec has the same panel tho'.

I will gladly retract my statement regarding the Panel Sinotech use.. as I have still not been able to find out what panel they use.... and I'm not about to pull my own tv to pieces.

But yes, the video engine does make a difference... I am just unsure as to whether it justifies the massive price difference.

Ok, I chatted to one of the guys at Sinotech about the Panel thing. They either use LG Panels, or their own panels which I'm guessing are based off LG technology.

afaik you don't need a tuner 'cause you get the signal from DSTV?

I also think there is additional import duty on screens with tuners, so if you don't need them it makes sense. Should be cheaper.
