Howzit. I am looking at getting the Alienware AW3423DWF. It's a bit more then I wanted to spend but that sweet sweet oled is calling. This is my only PC so it will be used for gaming, youtube/videos, some gopro video editing and also normal work stuff like emails, microsoft office, team viewer/anydesk remote work. Should I bite the bullet? Or rather go with a VA panel? Dell has a 3 year warranty including burn in and will replace the monitor within the 3 years

Your only concern should be burn in with oled. Windows taskbar kills oleds over time. Unless im just wayyyy behind on tech.

Oled is sweet sweet though

OLED?
Yes.

See Rtings and Hardware Unboxed for more, but the burn-in issue isn't as big of a deal as was feared in the beginning.
Just don't leave it on full brightness with HDR enabled on a stationary image for hours and you'll be fine.

My LG C1 is going strong with zero burn-in over the years, but I auto-hide windows Taskbar and when I get up and minimize all with a black background, so it's pitch black while AFK. Also don't have HDR / very high brightness enabled in Windows while working / browsing stationary apps.

OLED is awesome though.

I have been doing as much research as I can cos of burn in. Apparently hiding the task bar (which I always do) helps, using dark mode or less brightness when doing static work. Turning on pixel refresh. Screen sleep mode after 5 mins. Moving wallpaper ect

Thanks. Been reading up on the best care practices. The Alienware uses the same panel as the Samsung G8

Still can, anything with a hud would. But same risk as CRT back in the day

Variety is key. As long as you're not only opening the same program the whole day, but hopping between Office, Anydesk, gaming, youtube, series, etc then you should be perfectly fine.

Just avoid the same stationary screen with HDR enabled all day every day.
I also use Flux with which you can tap Alt+Page Down to drop brightness lower if the display is unnecessarily bright or you're stepping away for a bit but don't want the screen to be off, etc.

Wouldn't bother with too aggressive auto-sleep as that could do more harm than good switching off/on the screen the whole time. Something like 30 mins - no less than that else you're just going to get annoyed as you can barely take a phonecall or crank out a malema in the porcelain.

As long as you leave all the built-in protections like Pixel Shift on and set a screensaver or reasonable screen off value you will be just fine.

The only time you would ever need to worry about burn in is if for some bizarre reason your screen was going to stay on permanently all day every day with one static image and to do that you’d need to go out of your way to achieve it.

My LG OLED is now almost 8 years old and other than one pixel that occasionally gets stuck there isn’t a single sign of burn in anywhere.

You run a higher risk of sun damage from open windows than you do of burn-in.

My 48" C1 has been amazing - got it as soon as it become available.

Go with oled, VA panels do have a better contrast ratio than LCDs, but suffer from smearing and bad motion clarity.

I have one of these LG VA panels and I'm not a fan of VA at all based on this monitor.
Productivity is OK and I don't do gaming on it... but back in the day when I did game on it a bit the smearing was awful.

Sure it's cheaper but if I had to do it again I'd go with OLED and be done with it.
I was also looking at that AW3423DWF the other day but luckily I managed to fight off the demon... the one issue I might have with that OLED panel is that it's glossy and not matte.

Yep, VA smearing made me move to OLED.
