theres talk that some of it was cgi-ed....

As incredible as the Olympics opening ceremony fireworks looked on our television screens, it's disheartening to learn that some of what we saw was a computer-generated illusion.

...still it was nice if even if it was an illusion - right ?

Some of the fireworks were graphically edited. The foot prints part specifically.

Making mountains of mole heaps?

The fireworks themselves were real enough, but if you were watching on TV, what you saw was a CG simulation of that reality, happening in real-time. Confused yet?

And where did all the smoke come from? Smoke machines?

I bet the organisers of the 2010 Soccer WC are breathing a sigh of relief. They were probably very worried on how they can trump all the effects of that ceremony.

People seem surprised & shocked at this; why? Copying, faking, pirating - that is what the China is known for?

A large portion of the fireworks were real...

the footsteps part, was CG'd (at least the ones leading up to the stadium)... Personally its a LITTLE bit disappointing that it wasn't all real, but at the same time absolutely astounding that they could make it look so real.

So? most movies use CGI what wrong with using the same technology for an opening ceremony?

The aim was to wow people and they pulled it off, most of the fireworks were real anyway.

so people want a spectacle. they are given one. at the time they loved it.

so what if technology was used? it really baffles e this.

Why stop there. We should scratch the whole thing and render the whole Olympics.

The guys from Pixar can do the Opening & Closing ceremony. The Unreal3 engine is ideal for those competitions that require teams & fast paced action. PhysX for the archery events etc.

Reality is so last century.

lets just pray the power doesn't file while the 2010 cgi event is on the roll and everyone see the real RSA ;)
