Olympus SZ31 camera review

With 24x optical zoom and image stabilisation the Olympus SZ31MR offers class leading performance and specifications in a compact package. Should you be looking at one for your travel snaps?

24-600mm? Wouldn't mind field testing one of those, depending on the aperture range. The battery life is a bit on the pathetic side though.

They claim 80-6400, but with any point and click the limiting factor here is optics and sensor quality. It is good enough for the application that this camera will be used for, and very good compared to others in class, but you do get more noise than with more expensive cameras on the same iso setting.

I stopped reading at the gruesome cliché. //Stop being a cardboard box

Gruesome? Definitely not.

Horrible? No, OK maybe.

Questionable? Possibly, but I'll reserve judgement on cliche usage until I read something of yours to compare ;)

I saw this under the 'cons' heading and had to chuckle - "Auto Stabilisation Can Cause Blurry Images"

Yeah that was an odd way of saying it, but that really is the effect you get. It is very noticeable under higher zoom levels, and much more so than on more expensive cameras where the effect is often not noticeable at all.
