Johannesburg - The police have "concrete evidence" of a suspected third force involvement in xenophobic attacks in and around Johannesburg, the Gauteng Legislature heard on Tuesday.

"The police now have concrete evidence of those involved in orchestrations and they are dealing with it," said Gauteng MEC for Sport Barbara Creecy.

She was speaking on behalf of Community Safety MEC Firoz Cachalia during a debate on the spate of violence in Gauteng in the past week.

Creecy said the total number of arrests related to the unrest now stood at 297.

*sigh*

I guess that's what Proudly South African people do... Find other people to blame.

The 'third force' are the criminals using 'xenophobic' attacks as an opportunistic to commit crimes that are unrelated to the riots.

No.
"3rd force" implies a concentrated group effort. An organisation.

Perhaps it is a power criminal organization behind it - but not just "criminals".

No, no, some forum members who would rather feel like they are being unfairly victimised under the suspicion of racism.

I hope they find this "third force" and deal with it. I would rather it existed and dealt with then find out in true government fashion it's nothing more than an excuse for something they can't fix.

Maybe they'll pull something out of left field like blaming the MDC :o

/don't laugh

If they do have evidence of this then surely they should be brought to book?

While I don't disagree, I would like to question: could the Boeremag really be up to doing anything like this?

Push a people far enough and they'll fight back. Has happened throughout history again and again. Maybe just this has happened again?

One problem with the "Boeremag" theory is that of logistics.
Can you see a white beerboeped bearded Afrikaaner inciting township communities into acts of terror against each other?
I cannot.
