Omnia II (i8000) Release Date?

Hi all :)

My contract is up and this phone just looked awesome but I can't seem to find any information about when it will become available here.

Anyone have any ideas when this phone will start making it's appearance?

I have also been waiting for this phone to come out. It really is AWESOME. I've even gone so far as to switch to prepaid while waiting for this phone to come out.

The Official Samsung Omina II Facebook Page states that it was supposed to have been launched in August with 13 other countries.

The fourteen countries that will see the launch of the Samsung Omnia II during August are: Philippines, Thailand, Netherlands, Turkey, UAE, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Nigeria, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Chile, Colombia, and Australia!

I contacted my local MTN SP shop and they have no idea when the phone will be launched. They said I should contact Samsung South Africa.
 
OK.. I just phoned the Samsung South Africa call centre. (0860 726 786)

I was told that the Omnia II will not be released in South Africa!?!

Why not?? It's such an awesome phone :( I have the option for the Omnia HD but it just looks too big and not as awesome (hd recording really doesnt phase me too much :p)

Hmm...

I think I will phone them again, actually about 5 times, and speak to 5 different people, then average the result of their responses, to determine the likelihood of the Omnia II being released in RSA.

If I average out all the other research I've done with regards to the release of Omnia II in RSA, I would say there's a 50% chance of it being released.
 
And to think I had it in my hands in September already, testing it out. This was in Malaysia though. Shoulda just bought it when I had the chance!

Samsung really screwed up royally on this release, for their best phone yet. WM 6.5 was just released and already it's old and stale. I would have bought this phone last year September/October, but now I am defnitely going to get an Android phone.

Either something in HTC stable, or the Google Nexus one.

Will have to wait another month or 2 though...
 
The best Samsung phones have a clear focus on media and don't muck it up with useless interface 'enhancements'. Rather go for the Omnia HD
