Firstly im told that if you want 10mbps ADSL you need to be connected to an ADSL imax box ... if this is not the case, its impossible to get 10mbps ... Ok so after many phone calls to Telkom i find out that the exchange im connected to RFWS does have spare ports on their Imax boxes but im connected on the normal ADSL box (why this is the case i dont know), so am limited to only get a maximum of 4meg ... im also about 2.5km away from the exchange (Following the road)

I am with afrihosts bundles product so they managing the telkom line as well ... Afrihost can do little about this ... tried phoning DTAC in Telkom to move my line to an imax box, to which i was told i need to contact commercial and ask them to upgrade me to a 10meg line (but i requested a 10 meg line in the first place) ... so if someone can help point me in a direction where i can get my line upgraded to 10meg or someone to tell me technically why its not possible i will be happy

btw had adsl tech support recreate my port and they cannot recreate it on ADSL2+ the option is greyed out (makes sense because i aint on an imax box)

I'm in a similar position. The exchanges in my area are all 10 and some even 40 VDSL enabled and ready.

My dslam however is not upgraded to support 10mb. Therefore I am and will be until said upgrade on a 4mb line.

Sux.

You're not gonna have any luck.
Just accept the 4mbps or get some other form of broadband.

ok just an update ... i logged a fault for slow speed citing that i need to be moved to a spare port on the ADSL Imax box.

guess what

1hr ago i see my modem synching at ADSL2+ ... yay :) ...

so phoned afrihost and bumped me to 8mbps ... SNR of about 18 ... will run it at this speed for now ... see how it goes :) ... and then bump to 10mbps

Wow you are lucky..... I am connected to a Imax..... Birdswood Imax but they say it does not support 10mb yet. Very sad cause I tried everything but with no luck.... still stuck on 4Mbps line with my router on adsl2+ mode..... :(

Also stuck with the same problem which sucks yet my work down the road has it on their dslam not that far away from me.
