On the chopping block

Antowant: +-R50 billion of Telkom's R75 billion market cap comes from Vodacom. Telkom's fixed line business is stagnating and everyone knows it. Vodacom however is competing in a market where there is at least some competition. Despite being the biggest cellco in SA, MTN are killing them in the rest of Africa. If anything were to happen to Vodacom, Telkom is screwed so they're desperately trying to diversify.

I think its silly that the gov allows Telkom to hold on to fixed line like they do yet they are not doing anything with it. it sucks.

"Our decision to take the matter to the Competition Tribunal is a reflection of our commitment to push through our bid for BCX. We'll stop at nothing to acquire BCX. We aren't interested in Arivia. It's not even among the options that Papi Moletsane (Telkom CE) has drawn up for the worst-case scenario."

The last time they made no contingency plans Telcordia took them for R2billion, perhaps a plan B is in order this time :D

LOL, planning is IMO not something that Telkodemonopolies is adept at, which extends to the way the beast continues to operate in the face of competition by continuing to exorbitantly overcharge its very few customers, and then think that it will only lose 10%..15% of its customer-base to competitors when they actually exist and start offering services.

I used to think that Telkodemonopolies was occasionally diabolically sneaky, nowadays under the leadership of Sick Puppy Moletsane, I have come to realise that Telkodemonopolies really is continuously diabolically idiotic & dumb & stoopid - way to go there Moletsane: you must be the first CEO to actually run a de facto telecoms monopoly straight into the ground...
