"On the road fee" what is it?

As the subject says,
What is the R3500 'on the road' fee dealers pass onto us?

I'm busy trading in my car and busy sifting through all the extra crap they trying to bundle on :)
 
That is what they charge you on a new car to do the registration, negotiate it, if you are buying a fairly expensive or new car I would say they should cut it altogether if you not getting any discount.

Nope its not a new car, second hand and 210k..

cant i just do the license transfer myself, for the R300 or whatever it is? :p

Hmm you prob (really dunno though, perhaps they won't allow you) but that is a pain in the ass :p time off work, waiting in lines etc.

First try negotiate to be much less or completely off
 
Think that includes roadworthy, registration, number plates etc.

Yep the registration, and their "admin" is sometimes also thrown in there for good measure

Some dealers make it sound like invoicing a vehicle is doing you a favour :p

Gonna try negotiate it with them as you suggested,
The thing is they already going to make ~25k on my trade in if they sell it themselves,
they making a profit on the car the car they selling me
they making a % on the bank financing (they wont admit it, but its a given)
they might make a % on the dent/scratch insurance they trying to throw in

car dealers! :(
I know its a business, but dont rape us!

You're trading in at a massive loss as well as paying them a fair profit on the "new" vehicle you're buying.

I would tell them to waive that fee or the deal is off personally.

A dealership should be willing to lose a bit of profit from one side of the deal in my opinion.
 
A dealer once told me that a part of it is too to the registration and licensing of the car, but the rest goes into a fund for fixing damaged vehicles. Ie, you buy a new car and before you take delivery it is scraped at the garage, that fund is used to sort out those issues.
Now that's what he said they use it for. I'm sure everyone administers the cash differently.

When i bought my new car I told them to waive the R2500 and i would pay the R1000 specific to registration and plates wwhich in my opinion was a fair deal.
 
I got quoted on a new Kia Picanto R3902.63 excl VAT (R4448.99 incl VAT) for On the road fee which Includes: P.D.I. / License and Registration / De-Wax / Valet / Fuel / Admin Costs / N.C.A. costs / Transportation / Carpet set / Deposit Cover – 10%.

On my Fortuner I paid R1000 which included a full vallet, a set of luxury carpets and a half of tank of diesel. I done the licencing and numberplates myself.

they usually put in R100 fuel.

to me the carpets should come with the car.

transportation is their problem.

deposit cover? wtf is that?

PDI is also their problem

P.D.I. (what is this?)
De-Wax (what?)
N.C.A. costs (never heard of this and I'm in banking)
Transportation (to where?? - did they deliver the vehicle to you?)
Deposit Cover (what is a deposit cover?)
 
no luck getting a discount on the fee :(
oh well..
getting a fairly good deal on the new car
