"On the road fee" what is it?

Latest one looks like this:

Service and Delivery R3500
License and Registration R3500
Admin Charges R3000

What gives?

Get them to give you a complete breakdown of those charges...

R10k for that is an unutterable rip off.

You present the Dealer with an Invoice:
Pre Delivery Inspection Fee R2000
Perusal of Invoice R2000
Attending to Finance Docs. R2000
Attending to Insurance Cover R2000
Sundry Costs R2000.

...and see how he responds.

Yip, most of these fees are bull****. I saw a presale inspection fee lately. The dealer wants to charge me to make sure that the car they are selling isn't defective, wtf?!

And if you end up NOT buying the car? Will they refund you? So when the next customer wants to buy the same car, will they still need to make sure the car is not defective?

For some reason this "on the road fees" story from dealers really riles me, almost as much as when I hear JZ preaching the govts anti corruption stance.
