I've rented out my place for 18 months and they haven't looked after the garden at all. I can't really whinge, as while I was there I didn't do much either.

Anyway - it looks like a jungle ... tree,s and bushes everywhere ... weeds ... etc etc You can imagine an untouched garden after so long!

A received a quote for R8500.00 now for a once off clean up. They reckon 2 full days labour with a team of 3-5 guys.

Think it's excessive? Anyone else done it?

Looks excessive to me.

Rather pick up a couple of guys on the street looking for work and borrow/rent a few garden tools. Won't cost you more than R1000

Where abouts my uncle runs a garden service + irrigation company in CPT and that seems a bit excessive to me.

Perhaps I'll get a few other quotes.

To get my place livable, it's :

R8500.00 garden
R8800.00 carpets
R6500.00 paint (only)

No idea about labour for painters :/

*sigh*

Where are you based Dolby? I could get someone to do it for you for half that.

Randpark Ridge ...

You sure you don't wanna see it before telling me you could get someone to do it for half? ;) I'm sure the carting away tree's and bushes is about 10 loads alone ... R4000.00 afaik!

When do you need it done by? Hubby does landscaping/maintenance but he's not available immediately

paint before you put carpets in, and perhaps paint it yourself? especially if you have a smooth wall with nicely defined ceiling edging etc just get paint, roller+ tray, masking tape and a lot of paper.

garden work.. hrm ask around, find someone who has a gardener/neighbor? and ask them perhaps? I think it will work out a heck of a lot cheaper. As for ruble removal/garden refuse i dunno how it is in jhb but here if you can pack it neatly then u can hire a van or something and drop off at the council drop off point. They usually never complain about garden refuse tho ruble depends on how much they have already. - i did this a few times here in cpt

It will be a good idea to get a weekly garden service on contract to keep the garden in shape in future - and add that to the rental cost.

There are people who will look after the rented property, then there are those who'll just wipe it through their a$$es... the deposit should cover the repainting/recarpeting/etc should this sort of thing happen.

i think this is just a bit excessive...

our garden service charges about R90 per week and lets say they work for an hour.

So if that same garden service had to work for lets say 18 hours then (90*18 = 1620) not NEAR R8000!!

Is Tarzan hiding in that jungle somewhere, perhaps? :D

Or do you have some nasty trolls wanting to have some roast burrahobbit? :D

If it's only clean up work (donkey work) then 8 grand is a bit much.

I would expect to pay 8 grand if a landscaper clean it up and redesign and plant some new shrubs and install something like a waterfeature or the like.

That doesn't look like it should be R8500. I'll pm you my husband's cell number and you can give him a call...he can come and give you a quote on Saturday morning if you like? He's still working until the 23rd Dec but he can fit you in on weekends and after the 23rd.
