Ok so ive asked a few times why my connection drops whilst in the PpoE mode (dial up) but have not yet found anything. Is it possible to just use my own router in the house on a different Landline cable (same line just different place in the house) and use it like that ? Or wont this work. Also could anyone recommend a good wireless modem :D

I just wanna beable to use my different accounts to myself :)

Thanks :D

Mypro-D, you should be able to move your router to a different point, providing it on the same telephone number.

What i want to do is use a different router all together, so there will be two. the netgear does not support a bridge mode. So i want to buy another router for my unshaped account that i run all the time. So there will be two routers in the house running of the same adsl line with 2 different accounts...

Haha is this possible

Did you check:

i. How often the IPs renew?
ii. What happens when you setup each device that connects to have a static IP?

had the same IP for about 23 hours at average, sometimes more, this happens every 20minutes.

I do not know how to set it at a static IP. I think its gonna be easier to just by another Router for myself. But is this possible :)

Thanks

You misunderstand me. I presume that IPs on your network are handed out via DHCP from the router. That is each device will have an internal IP address eg 192.168.1.1, 192.168.1.2 etc. The router leases the IPs to the devices and renews the lease at set intervals (or never if there is that setting).

What I have experienced before is something similar in that addresses would not resolve although the connection was still alive. I resolved this by ensured that the router reserved specific IP addresses for specific MAC addresses. That is, static IPs on the internal network as opposed to dynamic IPs.

My suspicion is that even though on renewal my computer would retain the same IP, the fact that it was not guaranteed to keep the IP (before I set it to static IPs) through something out.

So while this is all happening, your IP to the outside world (41... or 196...) is not affected.

Oh i see. Ok yes that makes sense as there are 4 other pcs connected and all controlled by DHCP.

So how exactly would i go about settin up a static IP.

Sorry for the stupid questions but like i said im noob :)

Thanks hey

Mypro-D, you'd need to contact you internet service provider and inquire through them. They would be the ones who would supply you with a static IP

Im just gonna buy a billion or linksys router and run it in bridge mode. Would that be a better idea???

Alchemist - the static IPs are for the internal network not the one he gets from the ISP.

Mypro-D - What's your router again?

Its a Netgear D834g i think, the wireless one with 54mbps not the one with 108.

Thanks for everyones help in trying to get this thing sorted out guys, i really appreciate it :D

Your router's manual

p85 of the PDF shows how to find out what devices are given IP addresses by the Router. Note the MAC Address of each IP.

p98 of the PDF shows you how to add static IPs.

I would give more detailed instructions if I had the router and could work it.

Thank Milomak, Ill give it a try tonight when i get home and let you know what happened.

Thanks hey :D
