One man can make a difference

Hmm, because we don't already have a plethora of options for moving computer parts around.

Yeah, at rip-off prices. My point is that post offices are not going the way of the dodo any time soon because we still need to send physical objects. They're sailing along just fine in other countries.

Just because SAPO is a fsckup does not mean we don't need a functional and affordable postal service.

Biggest load of nonsense I have read today. He has not turned around s**t! His staff is still incompetent, they can still not deliver a simple letter. The Post Office should be privatized.

Yeah still loads to be done and the article sounds like it's sponsored, I still don't like it when all the praise is heaped on the CEO, while ignoring all the hard-working people around the CEO, that is how we ended up having overpaid fat cats CEO while the workers are getting peanuts.

I don't use the PO services much except for my licence renewal, but the man seems decent and i have no doubt he is the right man for the job, the union seems to be on good terms with him and the P.O. workers I know talks very highly of him, if only the government can give him the support he needs.

hate to be obvious here, but watch what happens when they find a "cadre" to replace him....

That is what I thought as well. He will bring the SAPO to the brink of profitability and lay the ground work, then a cadre will replace him and reap the rewards. Even if that isn't what happens, the biggest challenge he is going to face is not turning the SAPO around, but keeping the greedy ANC paws out of the cookie jar should it become profitable.

Cadres will fire him once he starts kicking some ass.

How did you guys deduce that this one is not a cadre, was he not employed by Zuma's government?

First of all he doesn't have a criminal record a mile long. His resume is quite impressive compared to most of the cadres.

Well he isn’t a member of the ANC. A pretty easy way to deduce he is not a cadre.

Cadre deployment is the act of appointing a member of your political party (or political circle) to a public institution.

That is not MyBB definition of a cadre and you know it, I have seen many good people being referred to as cadres on this forum and not once did any proof of membership accompany the cadre name calling.

Anyway the support for this guy coming from hard to please MyBb forumites is heart warming, there was a thread about how the interim SABC board have turned things around, the was nothing but ridicule for those guys, even after they got rid of Hlaudi and all the sound decisions they've made.

I was expecting the suspicion that usually follows the Zuma government appointments, I am pleasantly surprised.

Nah, there's longevity in this. The US, arguably far in advance of us technologically and infrastructurally, makes good use of their postal system.

Obviously things are going digital, but people will always be sending physical goods from A to B, and I would rather pay postal rates then courier rates, if the postal service is up to scratch.

this ^

I occasionally send a parcel to Malaysia counter to door. 2 years ago it took 6 weeks to arrive. The last two took 10 days.

Sad that someone just doing their job properly hits the headlines.
The norm seems to be for people to run things badly and continue getting paid for it. This is a very South African thing and not at all normal.
You could try and blame BEE for putting incompetent people in charge or you could try and blame apartheid for institutionalising job protection and nepotism. Either way the cure is simple - fire people who don't correctly do the job they were employed to do (without giving them a multi-million rand bonus!).

I'm not sure how true any of that is tbh.

Sorry but as a regular SAPO user I have seen no visible improvement in customer service or speed of mail delivery.

My good friend Aids Skrillex has the answer to the question.

I think just providing transparency on package processing and fixing their tracking system would go a long way to instilling trust in the SAPO again. At least then if I haven't received the parcel after X weeks I can see where it last was and query why it is not moving.

The sad thing is, they actually have a great tracking system, but for internal use only. Whenever I've had a problem and go in to a branch, they look it up on their system and can tell me EXACTLY where it is and how long it's been there for. If I order something cheap from aliexpress with free shipping from china, I don't care if it comes in 1 or 2 months, it's just nice to know it'll eventually be delivered.

I've peered over the counter to try see what the system is - it's done in a browser - but it looks like an intranet address :(

Does that mean that 73.6% of mail eventually gets delivered, as opposed to only 61.6%?

A little more complicated I think... not sure how its works for sapo exactly but they would have a 'standard', meaning, for example a single envelope should be collected, sorted, shipped, etc etc etc and finally delivered on a set timeline, each package/size/weight/distance etc would have a slightly different 'standard'. I'm assuming that logistics side is the standard being talked about, ie, 73.6% of the time they are within their targets /shrug (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong)

As far as I am concerned the PO is still ****. The staff and systems are still slow as hell. Queues have not improved. Suffer the oldest and poorest when SAPO gets the SASSA contract.

Well my international parcels have gone from average 40-60 days now to 4 months and counting
