one uncapped account...multiple users

hi

i was wondering.

what if i bought an uncapped adsl account...then got 5 people to use it.

then each person would pay R200 each so we would pay for the account and everyone have access to the uncapped adsl?

is this possible and are people doing this out there? will i go to jail or anything

if it is on one like then it is ok but for them to enter the settings as well on seperate routers then all of you can't be connected at the same time
 
Yep - guaranteed you'll find in the T & C's of such a contract "multiple concurrent connections not allowed".
 
but if your friends are neighbors or live very close then maybe wireless may be a solution. still probably illegal but impossible to for them to discover
 
why would it be illegal? don't businesses get uncapped lines to share among it's users?

i don't see what the problem is if we are still limited by speed - 1 guy downloading at 1mb/s or 5 people downloading at 200kb/s - whats the diff?

there's some law about sharing a wireless connection across a public road or something similar. he's probably referring to that as being illegal.
 
As far as i know you are not allowed to sell bandwidth blah blah, across roads blah blah :)
Just get a fixed ip set it up as a proxy and voila...your mates can connect through you, all they need is a 30 GB local account which translates into a 30 GB international cap.

one active connection. most uncapped is fixed ip anycase so...

ofcourse your not selling it...they are just contributing towards it :)

although I'm not sure about the legalness of this whole thing - !casa might grow a pair of nice, big balls and start to confiscate equipment left, right and center.
 
well if it is just between you and your friends a limited amount of friends then it should be fine. get like a 4mb line and let them dial in remember then to only give them like a 250kb/s account so that the speed is not killed
 
yeah thats what I was asking about in one of the forums I created if someone has a proxy that I can just use for browsing on my local accoount
 
If you set up a WLAN with encrypten and give the PW to your buds no ISP in the world can tell how many users are downloading something! That is because the Class A-E IPs are not routed in to the internet. So if you have the possibility of a WLAN go for it.
 
4mbps line: R550pm
uncapped account: R2899pm
total: R3449pm

so you could setup a wireless access point and sell 1mbps uncapped accounts for R1200 and make a killing. R1200x4=4800-3449=1351 gross profit per line.

get a few customers & lines, say 1000 customers, 1000/4=250 lines, 250*1351= R337,750.00 GP per month.
