Hi All,

A lot of the dealers advocate for the OneNav system as an upgrade if the standard system doesn't have apple car play, navigation, etc. I can't find any reviews online so I was wondering if anyone has had experience with them and if they are any good?

https://onenav.co.za/

Alternatively, are there other OEM endorsed systems that you would recommend?

I had one of their units, I'm unsure which model.

It worked well enough but the pre out was so crap that any amplified sound made it whine like an electric car.

This is most info I have found with people who have used it.
I considered it myself but its pricey.

Apple car play, for it not to affect the warranty in any way and for it to fit so it looks like it was meant to be part of the car

If your car is still in warranty, it's fairly newish.. at l ast new enough that it is supposed to have apple car play compatible infotainment..

What car is this..?

Thought I'd bump this thread instead of creating a new one - stumbled on these head units while looking for a 7" with android auto - anyone have experience with them yet?

Currently R3,500 - vs a JVC I was considering for R5,400.

Its for an old Jeep - so don't really want to break the bank.

I just bought the one you’re talking about and it so far it works great
It will cost extra for the harness to get it to work with steering wheel controls so you’ll probably be in for another R2.5k.
Minor irritation is that the screen doesn’t auto adjust so I find it too bright at night or to dim during the day.
Also the glossy screen is a bit reflective
But the CarPlay works like a treat and that’s why I bought it.

Thanks - going into old Jeep Wrangler, so no steering wheel controls - and I bought an ISO adapter for the car, so hopefully a quick install.

I actually see companies selling them for R3,200 on facebook with a rear cam - so probably going to go ahead with it.

RE: glossy screen - had that with a similiar radio in my previous car, buy a generic matt screen protector and cut to size.

I haven't looked at how accessible Android auto/CarPlay is programmatically - but you may be able to get an app that dims the screen according to time of day, I had this on my Android headunit.

Mine's in 2009 Qashqai and having buttons that did nothing would have really irritated me.
The brightness is controlled by the base unit OS (which they really could have made look nicer) so controlling that might be more tricky. I'm not sure that CarPlay/Android Auto speak to the base OS on that level (Telling siri to lower or increase the brightness has no effect even though it accepts the command.)

I recall with the stock Android units there was a layer in between that interfaces with the headunit hardware - for the life of me I can't remember what, it was about 8 years ago.

Trying to find anything using google is near impossible because it keeps bringing up Android apps - I'll probably find something eventually.

It must be possible though as my wife's car seems to handle the dimming, etc automatically (Rav4).

Quick question, if the underlying OS is Android, how long does it take to start-up from a cold start? I remember with my Android 4.4 headset it took about 2 minutes.

Reverse camera will switch on as soon as you go into reverse. The radio takes maybe 15 seconds to go to last used app radio or music etc. its quick. has 2 gig memory

Not too bad. Android Auto is in that range I'd wager. 10-15 sec.
