OnePlus 15

So it's a beast with the exception of the camera? Hmmm... Where they've perhaps taken a small step backwards? Oneplus has always battled to compete with flagship devices in the camera category, it feels like they've raised the white flag with the OP15... Strange but I would love to hear the methodology behind the decision...

OnePlus 15 vs OnePlus 13 photo camera comparison

The OnePlus 15 is the latest flagship smartphone from the Shenzhen-based smartphone brand. The newer model features several improvements over its predecessor, the OnePlus 13, that you expect from a generational upgrade, such as a faster processor, a bigger battery, faster charging, and a higher refresh rate display. However, there is one aspect of the spec sheet that has caught everyone’s eye, and that is the rear camera specifications.

You see, much like with every other aspect of the phone, we expect the cameras to be upgraded over the previous generation as well. However, OnePlus had made the curious choice of picking lower-quality parts from its camera bin this generation, which, on paper, makes the new OnePlus 15 look worse than the OnePlus 13. But while things may not look rosy on the hardware front, OnePlus may have a trick up its sleeve when it comes to software.

The company recently ended its four-year-long partnership with Hasselblad, with the latter now working exclusively with OnePlus’s sister company Oppo. OnePlus, meanwhile, is turning a new leaf in its camera journey with something it calls DetailMax Engine. This new processing pipeline is designed to produce more natural-looking images that have less of the artificially processed look and more realistic detail. The phone can also churn out higher resolution 26MP files from its main and telephoto cameras, by combining multiple 12MP frames for dynamic range information with a 50MP frame for raw detail. All of this is combined with the improved processing grunt of the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip.

But how do these new software tricks help the OnePlus 15 against the OnePlus 13 with its better hardware? In this report, we will focus primarily on the point of contention between these two phones, which is the photo quality from the three cameras on the back, to see which one comes out on top.

i think that the software is not as optimized as OnePlus would like to make it because Marques did say in that video you posted that with the hardware changes the cameras were worse and (more importantly) the Picture Quality really suffered and took a big knock - so for people who want a crazy desktop level performer with average camera's this may well be an ideal solution

its also not surprising that iphones batteries are competitive compared to Androids offerings because nowadays the iphone offers a fair amount less in terms of functionality and its easier to optimize for "less stuff to do" than it is for "more stuff to do" but batteries are so much more than just capacity ..... theres also how quick it can charge after they run down that's a big factor and i'm sure that the OnePlus will charge a lot quicker too

for the guys who want excellent camera performance though the iphone may just be the way to go or possibly soon the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max - and the Samsung S26 Ultra may also just be an excellent all rounder even if it doesn't improve too much in the camera hardware department - the better and faster processing of the new SOCs in the phone may still improve picture quality of the photos it is able to take (time will tell but the ultra is only due beginning of next year)

still its mostly good news regarding phones in general in terms of functionality and performance even though phones still look like chocolate bar slabs for the longest while as well as the present day (so as always not the greatest aesthetics) - i think the only way to prettify the phone is to keep making the user interface prettier because there isn't much you can do to the physical unit itself without making it impractical to carry around

Lol double the iPhone 17 battery capacity but it only managed 7h screen on time.

well android phones have lots of working and performing functionality whereas the iphones only advertize vaporware that actually in most instances don't exist - so if it doesn't do half the things they say it is supposed to then no wonder it uses only half the battery life to do what it does do 😉

Does this come from the same expertise that claimed each new release iPhone is $100 more expensive than their prior version?

say what you want regarding me - it wont change the fact that your iphone is getting further and further behind with each iteration and soon its just going to be expensive for nothing ..... and now everyone and their dog is becoming aware of it

It’s funny then it’s still sold out even 2 months later.

For the first time in many years I am considering a flagship and the software support is a bit of a deal breaker. Oneplus only offering 4 OS updates in the phones lifetime - whereas competitors offering 7.

It is unfortunate. That bothers me more than the camera quality.

Same price as high end Samsung and OnePlus.
Not if you want more smart things. I have a variety of smart devices and brands that all work with my Android. It wouldn't be as easily possible or at all if I had to go with Apple.

sold out doesn't mean that its good - people have to try it and other alternatives to realize how schit it actually is and the demand will eventually fizzle out over a couple of generations of declining sales (unless they buck up their ideas)
