Those who are farmiliar with these phones, which one will you take?

I am only familiar with one of the two. If presented with these two phones, I will pick the OP 5t again, because of the;
Slightly larger AMOLED Screen
LTE-A Capable
Android 8
16MP + 20MP Rear Camera
16MP Front Camera
DASH Charge
3.5mm Audio Jack

Note the factory fitted Screen Guard on the OP 5t is not Tempered Glass, so you might need to order one along as it hard to find/expensive in ZA.

Valid points, but if you do not want to be stressed by and wait for shipping, the MI Mix 2 can be bought in SA.

But buying them locally are almost double the price

Very little separating the 2... I LOVE my 5T but the design of the Mi Mix 2 is really gorgeous! Performance and ram management on the Mi Mix 2 appears to be as good, if not better than the 5T and the 5T is an absolute beast of a phone.

Camera on the 5T is better though, based on the few online shootouts I've watched. Not by a large margin mind you.

I think given the lack of local support I might consider the Mi Mix 2 over the 5T. Or wait for the Oneplus 6 which should be out within the next month or 2....

OnePlus's OxygenOS is a very vanilla version of Android, and updates are faster than with most manufacturers. That's a fairly big point in OnePlus's favour. The OnePlus 6 is supposed to be announced very soon though so you might want to wait for that.

Bought mine on GearBest, had it within two weeks (paid $11 for priority shipping and $12 for insurance),was stuck in our customs for a big part of that time.

The was pre-vat/import duty increases in ZA, also should one choose to buy from a company that does not ship to ZA, you can always use an international mail forwarder.

So shipping is really not a valid excuse anymore, however support might be an issue...

So I've decided to go with the miMix.. How much was vat and duties?

Got my 5T this week from gearbest vat/Import was R315 duties.

Hope it helps

OnePlus 6  You like a notched phone? Mi Mix 2s is what I'll take.

Same here...got mine yesterday...paid R323 duties. What an awesome phone. The service from Aramex was excellent as well.

That's what I meant. So loosing some screen realestate. Not much but still.

I never got used the iPhone X notch. Mix2s will probably get my vote.

Yeah, the hardware has to go somewhere. It would be great if the Android devices lost their chins/bottom bezel but apparently this is a design cue that costs a fortune to implement.

The bottom screen area i.e. chin is the place which is used by display (touch-screen) controller. All Android mobile phones require a ribbon at the bottom to connect the mobile display to the main board. That's why all Android phone companies are forced to keep the chin at the bottom.

Now you can ask why iPhone X doesn't contain any bezel or chin at bottom? The answer is that iPhone X uses a flexible/bendable display screen which folds towards the back thus moves the ribbon connection to the back and removes the limitation to have a chin.

Now you may ask again if iPhone X can use the flexible display to remove the chin, why Android mobile phones don't follow the same strategy? The reason is the price! Using flexible display will increase the overall cost of the mobile phone and not all mobile phone companies can use flexible display in their low-cost mobile phones. That's why iPhone X costs so much, now you know it.

I wouldn't mind the notch if there was no chin. Having said that, Xiaomi did a great job incorporating the hardware into the chin but I'm sure it takes a bit of getting used to.
