Very interesting!! :D

The OnePlus 5 has been selling well for the past four months, but it looks like a successor is already on its way. Our source reveals to us that a new model, which will go by the name of the OnePlus 5T will release in November 2017. This is very similar to what OnePlus did in 2016, releasing the OnePlus 3T just five months after the OnePlus 3.

So, what’s new in the OnePlus 5T?

At this moment, we have only a few details about the upcoming model. The biggest upgrade is said to be in the display department, with the company bumping up the screen size on the 5T model to 6-inches with 2160 x 1080p resolution, thereby making it an 18:9 smartphone. Major manufacturers, including ones like Vivo have released 18:9 flagship smartphones this year, so it makes sense for OnePlus to jump on the tall display bandwagon with a new model. But the OnePlus 5 is already up to date with powerful specs, so it will be interesting to see if there are any other upgrades in the new model’s specifications.

As someone in the comments mentioned, the OnePlus CEO has stated firmly that there will be no OnePlus 5T. Either the rumours are crap (the pic in that article is an existing Oppo device) or OnePlus is launching the OP6 only a few months after the OP5.

If a new device is indeed launched now, I feel like it would do tremendous damage to OnePlus's reputation. I certainly wouldn't commit to any future device of theirs knowing it probably has a ridiculously short lifespan as the company's flagship.

Yeah, very soon. I'm not sure the 5 has been the rip roaring success they wanted so they might need to generate income with a new model sooner rather than later. What's interesting is they did this last year with the 3/3T so they not shy to release new models within 6 months of each other.

The OP5 released late June though. It hasn't even been 4 months yet. Releasing a new phone now would alienate their customers on an apocalyptic scale.

If they're smart they'll quietly just re-release the OP5. Fix the display panel orientation (not that I've been affected by jelly scrolling though), make the metal around the camera lenses less prone to scratches (again, not personally affected) and whatever other tiny fixes they want to make. That wouldn't cause issues with existing owners and their product would still be very attractive for any consumer looking to not break the bank with a flagship phone.

Well the OP 5 is not available to buy on OP official site.. might mean nothing..but very interesting considering the timing of these OP5T rumors..

Yeah, there's a good chance the rumours are accurate unfortunately. A quiet refresh of the OP5 that just improves the manufacturing considerations would be ideal, but it's more likely they push for a new thin bezel design.

If a new design is announced now I'll never support OnePlus again that's for sure. Truly a whole new level of crapping on your most loyal customers.

They introduced the 3T very soon after the 3, though, right? Didn't that bother you?

The 3T was six months later and physically identical to the 3. Not the same thing at all. It was certainly irritating, but nothing to get enraged over.

I don't think there will be a OnePlus 5T. With the OnePlus 3T, there was an upgrade to the Snapdragon 821 processor. There is no new processor for the OnePlus 5T to flaunt.

the OnePlus 5T may have been scrapped in favour of OnePlus launching a OnePlus 6 in early 2018. It may well be that as the Snapdragon 836 is not arriving until 2018 - according to sources on XDA Developers - OnePlus has canned the idea of a slightly tweaked OnePlus 5T with the upgraded CPU, as this would have been the main selling point of the phone.

Funnily enough the small bezels would make me actually consider it. A new CPU wouldn't. :)

Why does it matter to you? The OP5 has very nice off-screen navigation buttons, and the space gained on the display as a result is pretty much identical to the extra space from a 2:1 aspect ratio. Except with the OP5 your navigation is lower down and you have to reach less high for your notification bar. And those tiny bezel designs are more prone to drop damage, which is a major problem if you need to deal with OnePlus. And of course with a normal 16:9 aspect ratio you don't get ugly letterboxing when watching videos.

Because it's a proper shift in smartphone design, and gives me more screen real estate in a smaller (or similar) form factor. The phones coming out with small bezels are also just way more appealing to me, the bigger bezel design feels outdated.

How are they more prone to drop damage? It's still glass on big bezel phones, even if it's not usable space.

Some small-bezel designs curve the glass on the edges (not just Samsung, although they curve the most). Phones like that perform worse in drop tests.

Agreed.

Here is what the smaller bezels and 2:1 screen ration have made large displays more manageable.

Well, it looks better than the current 5, even if it'll tick off some supporters.

I personally love a fingerprint sensor on the front of a phone. While putting it on the back really free's up a lot of screen real estate, it's not as intuitive to use hidden on the back of the phone. Would love to see it implemented into the screen. Or alternatively face recognition.
