Hi all

So iv got a chance to get the wife a Oneplus 6 64gb and 6gb Ram , she is currently using a Oneplus 5t 128gb and 8gb Ram . For those who have used both would you say the 6 is enough of a jump up to justify loosing the memory and Ram from the 5t?

Thanks

They both awesome but would definitely take the 6 if the memory is not gonna be a problem.
Camera, screen and battery all better on 6.

Battery capacity is identical on both. In fact battery lasts longer on the 5t. Smaller screen perhaps? 6.01” vs 6.2”... both screens 401ppi resolution. 6 has notch which she may hate, like or feel indifferent to. Personally I’m not a fan.

6 snappier, 845 vs 835. But only a tiny bit quicker. Barely noticeable in day to day.

Camera wise there’s very little in it. 6 maybe 3% better... meh...

Tbh it’s a rather insignificant upgrade. Change for the sake of change. Should probably stay put...

The camera on 6 has a larger sensor and comes with ois which definitely makes a difference. On the video side it can do much higher fps with snapdragon 845 cpu.
The adreno 630 will be better for games and overall smoother.
Also the 845 will be more efficient and should be better with battery in day to day usage.
Screen to body ratio also way better.
Like I said if she doesn't mind the memory then the 6 would be a better choice.

Yip reckon should be better, used both and from what I can remember the day to day usage was better.

Maybe some other forumites can chime in with their 2 cents worth? @Bryn

There's no contest between the 6 and 5T. My step-bro has the 5T (I previously had the 5) and the 6 is a different class of device.

- the 6's battery life is good enough to not care about what other devices have going on
- the new gesture navigation is only on the 6 and 6T for now last I checked
- the 6 will have a better time with updates in general
- the 6 looks far more modern and the display is clearly superior side by side.
- the camera is much, much better on the 6.

Didn't you have a 5T? Could have sworn you had a 5T!! My bad...

-better on the 5T though
-5T has gesture navigation yes
-Updates seem to be regular enough, Pie due before the end of the year if I'm not mistaken, regular enough not to care about what other devices have going on... :p
-Yeah, it is modern looking, notch=modern I guess. The panels are identical though so superior cause of the notch?
-6 Camera is better. I reckon 3% better. There was never a Dxomark score on the 5T but the 5 scored a 87 and the 6 scored a 99 so I'd put the 5T somewhere in the middle. 92-95...

I'm talking about the new gesture navigation, not the old one.

I rate the 5T camera as worse than the 5's, based on personal experience. It is certainly not comparable to the 6, which was a huge step up for OnePlus.

The colour accuracy, temperature and/or adaptive colours are responsible for the superior display then if the panels are supposed to be the same quality. As I said, side by side it's clear.

The notch creates a lot more usable space due to the notification bar being inside it. And the lower bezel is much smaller. It looks far more modern and will feel much less outdated for a while to come compared to a 5T.

Yeah, sorry Glue and Bryn, I'm not convinced... Let's see what some reviewers have to say on the topic...

Despite now being the previous-gen flagship, the OnePlus 5T remains a stellar device, although it’s no longer widely available. So if you’re looking to buy a new phone, the OnePlus 6 seems like a great choice right now.

However, if you’re coming from a OnePlus 5T, there’s little to justify the purchase of a new OnePlus 6.

The OnePlus 5T is still a fantastic phone today, and is in fact better than the OnePlus 6 in a few areas — particularly if you're not sold on the idea of the notch. The device did incredibly well in terms of sales, so much so that it was sold out in North America after just four months, and globally a month after.

If you already have the OnePlus 5T, it makes little sense to pick up the OnePlus 6.

A 6 month timeframe since last purchasing the device is not long at all, and while the OnePlus 6 does offer some compelling upgrades of the OnePlus 5T, the additions may not be enough to warrant the upgrade.

If you haven’t pulled the trigger on the OnePlus 6 and are still on the fence, then save your money for the OnePlus 6T that isn’t far away.

OnePlus has taken the decision that a 1080p AMOLED display is the optimum balance between affordability and performance. We have to say that it could well be right, as the OnePlus 6 zips around in an impressive fashion while still rendering crisp and colourful images.

It’s very similar to the panel on the 5T, with only the increased size and notch giving away which is which.

We’d be scratching our heads if the OnePlus 6 didn’t come out of top against its predecessors. While OnePlus isn’t offering any sort of huge advancement over the formula we saw in the OnePlus 5T, it’s the small changes that make the biggest difference — such as the upgrade to the Snapdragon 845 and the slightly larger screen.

If you’re new to OnePlus, we recommend going with their current flagship, the OnePlus 6. If you’re using a OnePlus 5 or 5T, we don’t see much of a reason to upgrade just yet.

So to conclude, OP asks For those who have used both would you say the 6 is enough of a jump up to justify loosing the memory and ram from the 5T?

It's a hard sell like on like, never mind 8gb/128gb vs 6gb/64gb variant... I don't think I've read a single review comparing the 2 phones where the reviewer has uncategorically come out and said, "yes, OP6 is significantly better and a worthwhile upgrade from a OP5T...

Thanks All

I think it largely comes down to personal preference........

Anyhow the wife likes the whole notch design and 64gb will be enough for her storage wise, she is also not likely to even notice the drop in Ram from 8 to 6, so the Oneplus 6 it is going to be, her choice. She seems to have caught the what's next bug......

I'll either end up keeping her 5t as a back up or ill sell it, will make that call once she gets the 6 on Tuesday.

So what the hell was the point of your thread then?

No one would claim that the 6 is a worthwhile upgrade from the 5T. The 6 was never aimed at 5T owners, just as the 6T is not aimed at 6 owners.

But buying either from scratch - the 5T is not the same value proposition unless you're paying a fair bit less.

Wasn't that the point of this thread and the reason I coaxed for comment in the first place?
