I have an online shop that sells to global customers.
I have a problem when it comes to exchanging money, and I am looking for the best possible way for customers to pay me directly online.

What is the best way or tool to achieve this? I have found out about the MoneyGram but it does not neccessarily suit my needs.

I also read on another thread here that allowing for credit card payments is risky buiness.

What other options are available that I can include on my side for customers to pay for their orders?

+1! for paypal.

i work with moneygram, its not for business use, only person to person and when you you start receiving multiple moneygrams it gets blocked from all angles
 
Apparently paypal does not work in SA. How true is this. Anybody used paypal to receive money on their site?
 
I'm stuck in the same boat, you can use google checkout ( they are quite restrictive though), you can also use moneybookers. Locally you can try mygate. I'm still looking for the best solution for us in SA.

As far as I know, Google Checkout only allow sellers in the US and UK. Have they changed this requirement?
 
Paypal, does work you just can't get your money out of it. So basically not a solution for us in SA.

I've found a nice system at 2Checkout www.2co.com, they send you a MasterCard debit card, which they pay your money's into so you can withdraw it at any ATM, or pay using it at online stores or at stores that accept Master Card.

What is really nice is that 2Checkout now accept PayPal payments on your behalf, so all the customers that prefer to buy using PayPal can do so and you will receive your monies in your 2Checkout account and debit card.
 
Paypal in South Africa only allows you to put money into your account for online purchases. You can't get money back from your account which means it's useless for a retail store.

I recommend looking at Netcash (www.netcash.co.za) and their EFT system (both credit card and debit order). The charges aren't too bad and a damn site more reasonable than Standard Banks charges and requirements.
