Hi Guys,

2 questions...

Who here plays FPS's on an ADSL 384 connection and what's it like?

When you play steam games (Half Life 2, CSS & DOD) on the Saix servers do you only utilize local bandwidth or is it local and international?

Thanks

FPS fine on 384 ADSL - I have played CS:S and DOD:S and found no problems with lagging at all.

Think it only utilises local bandwidth - but still counts towards your Cap. Could try a local only account ...

A friend of mine is on 384Kbps ADSL, he says he has no problems with lag at all. He didn't know about the bandwidth usage, though...

I've been playing the FPS Red Orchestra from Steam on 384 almost daily for a year now - at first on a shaped account, which is a bit hairy (360ms ping, "jerky", sometimes kicks), but lately on unshaped. Fastest pings in the 250ms range. This is quite playable and you can get a good score.

I usually get pings of sub 100ms for SAIX servers. A rough figure for bandwidth is about 50MB/hour

I swore somewhere on telkoms website it said something like:to reduce bandwidth usage download files from saix.co.za which will not count to your cap

but can't find it anymore, maybe it's been removed?

[edit] and oh yeah it is only local only bandwidth. but a local only account doesn't work with some games which need to login at international servers :(

Does that unshaped account make a difference to local latency as well?
