Hi Guys,

So I bought an Xbox 360 second hand which came with a few game. Now the problem is for those game to be played online I need to subscribe to the Xbox Live Gold account... (I think it's pretty fk'ng retarded)

Thinking of giving this console to my brother then since my kids have the PS3. I have however not gotten any online type games for the PS3 yet. Does it also require subscription to PSN+ to be played online or will the normal PSN work?

If that's the case I'll just buy new games for the PS3 then. If I have to subscribe to PSN+ which one would you play on instead? PS3 or Xbox?

Appreciate the assistance/Feedback

Hi

Both consoles charge a similar price for being allowed to play online.Im a ps fanbooi, so Ps all the way.Screw MS.

PSN gives 2 free games every month and I think the selection of games is better than what xbox offers.

I saw something like $5 or something per month correct?
Fk that sucks. Guess I'll have to activate PSN+ then... I would assume online game play is free like on PC's. Maybe I should just get another PC for the kids and use the stupid PS as a Blu-ray player and Netflix decoder :o

You do not need a subscription to play PS3 games online.
You do need PSN+ subscription for the PS4 games.
If you do decide to buy the PSN+ subscription, your PS3, PS4 and Vita will have access to it and all its benefits, including free games.
I'm not sure if there are any other handheld devices that can benefit from PSN+.

Last time i checked PSN was R69/month R145/3 months R489/Year.Xbox will be similar.

I will trade you a PC with a decent graphics card for your ps3?

Ok wait, so for R 69 a month I will get 2 free games per month to download? Doesn't sound like a bad deal tbh. However what if the 500gb Hard drive is full. You need to delete the games collected. Kinda sounds like a waste after a while then

No, you will be able to re-download all the games that you have purchased to play forever.

Delete and redownload.

games aren't massive as well.

as an eg:

Fifa 14 - 9gb
Tekken 6 - 18gb
crysis 1 & 2 - 7gb each
batman - 7gb

Those have been on the free list?

PSN+ it is then. Thanks guys :)

O btw, I registered it with a USA address for Netflix. Will it make a difference or not?

Another thing to keep in mind is your ADSL line. Can it handle another connected device?

Correct, even more free games if you have some of the other devices, although it works out cheaper to pay for 3 months or a full year.

Take in account you need double the space for the game you want to download.
If a game is 500MB then you need 500MB for the download file and another 500MB for the game install once it has been downloaded.
After installation you can delete the downloaded file and recover 500MB again.
Some of the games are much bigger.

I think you can download a game again if you deleted it.
Some games I will start the download and then cancel, just to have it my history. I can then go into my history and start the download when I want it.
I haven't done it that way yet, so I'm just guessing tbh.

No, I bought them.

You don't need to be a psn+ member to buy games.

Being a psn+ member will give you discounts + free games...

I'm opn Bitco 5Mbps. I already have about 4 devices connected to it via Wifi.

I'll keep that in mind. Will have to remember to remove the download files. Great tip thanks.

Any ideas of the type of free games? I kinda expect some Indie kind of crap tbh for R 69 :D

Just to clarify here:

You don't need a Playstation Plus account to play online. If you choose a PS+ account it will cost R489 per year, and you get a selection of premium games and indie games to download and play whilst you are a PS+ paid up member. Should you opt out, then your purchases remain in tact, but your PS+ games will not work.

FTFY :) Ps4 requires ps plus for all online games.

You dont need PSN subscription to play PS3 online..
PS4 however requires the subscription.

PS3 though is very worthwhile paying the +-R500 fo rthe year's subscription, as it gives you free games every month for all Sony platforms.. Vita, PS3 and PS4 which you can claim even if you do not own the consoles or handhelds...

Once you do acquire device or console, you can download said games and own them for as long as you have a subscription...

Bottom line, as Wasp_21 said, you do not need to pay anything extra to play PS3 games online.
