I think it would depend on how old your kids are. Some of these game have fantastic themes suited for kids, however the age group majority of the ppl playing can be an issue.

Sites to look at that have decent Age Appropriate filters are www.neopets.com - the games there are pretty good although they do get pretty dull.

RoseZa is a great game. MappleStory is pretty good too. Another free game you could look at is Fiesta - http://fiesta.outspark.com/ - It has a good child filter.

Depending on how old your kids are, you might look into Guild Wars. Another great game online for kids is My Sims, where you create a virtual world by building houses etc. with friends & other kids online - http://www.mysims.com/.

Personally if my kids were going to play anything online, I'd find a game that we could perhaps all play together as a family.
