OK guys, I'm not sure whether this has been asked before. Please excuse me if it had.

I'd like to play Black Ops online as it gets kind of boring playing offline when everyone's talking about online.

Truth be told I have no idea how to even start. Which servers, registering, all that jazz I have no idea how it works.

Please help! :)

ok first get the game , aka buy it :p

register it to a steam account of your choice.(steam account is free)

download the updates for it, might take a while on 384k line, hope you dont have 3g , will cost you allot then :p

then you can play it , you can filter server inside the broswer to match types you want to play, but you will see that when you have everything sorted :P

1) Is your Black Ops legit?

If yes, go to 3, if no go to 2.

2) Buy legal copy of Black Ops in a store or through Steam.

Go to 3.

3) Ensure Steam and Black Ops multiplayer component is up to date by running both.

4) I can't remember the exact menu names off hand, but you can select something like "Play Game" or something like that and it'll bring up a server browser. Tell it to sort by ping by clicking the Ping tab (I think) and South African servers should be placed at the top of your list. You want to play on servers with 100ms or lower ping.

And that's all I remember off hand. Tbh, I'm not sure if many people are playing with MW3 and BF3 having just come out. I play BF3 and it's packed pretty much every day.

OK, how long do ya think MW3 would download on a 1meg line? I think I'm going to buy that

HOT DAMN! 7 HOURS!

Ok, pretty much guaranteed i'll be drunk by then :)

Had to explain to the wife why a 490 was debited. Forgot she had my phone :D

Might get it next week or so.

OK so finally have some time to play MW3, but when I try to play it gives me an error

"Error during initialization:
Couldn't load fileSysCheck.cfg. Make sure Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 3 is run from the correct folder."

Does anyone know what I need to do? This is on Windows 7 :(

It's not worth buying black ops anymore, no one plays it like they used to very few people still play it, rather get Modern Warfare 3 or Battlefield 3. I personally haven't played black ops since I bought Battlefield 3

Right click on it in steam > properties > local files > verify integrity of game cache.

I'm new to online games as well, i'm just curios to now, How much data does an 3Hour online session use, and on average how much data do gamers normally use per month excluding downloads?
