Hi Everyone,

So HR has asked me to look into an online Leave Management system where employees can log in via a browser (a mobile app would be a bonus) and either apply for leave online or track their leave records.

I have looked at Jorani as this is a free install from Softaculous which was OK to setup, but it does not have a friendly interface to the back end and the front end for a user is quite difficult to use/understand. I am sure there are alternatives which are much simpler and easier to use out there. HR is expecting to manage and setup the the back end ( here is were the problem lies :) ).

Has anyone done something like this before, or is there any recommendations I could look at. I have done loads of "Google" searches with lots of hits, but I would rather take a recommendation from someone who has already done this kind of thing and is happy to advise.

Regards
Eric

I haven't had to do this myself because I've always worked somewhere using ESS from the payroll system (VIP or Accsys)

For free software, take a look at OrangeHRM. Also some of the open source ERP's like Odoo and Flectra have HR Modules which might be worth looking at.

If you guys are Microsoft 365 users , check out power platform. Loads of possible solutions there but you may need to build it , or pay someone to do it. I think there are some ready made ones you can buy to install.

Important to note:- ensure it keeps track of leave used/balances and compliance with local laws like sick leave used over three year period, etc.

Maybe just buy sage 300 or something then your HR will have propert payroll and HR software.

Find out what Payroll system your company uses. Most payroll systems have Employee Self Service systems that fully integrates to the Payroll system and will do all this and more.

What type of business are you in? Do all/most employees need or require a computer username? What is your business growth potential and ict strategy?

Just lobbing on a new yet seperate HRM system can be deterimental to long term business growth and scaling. In select situations, such as a manual labour workforce, it might not matter too much, but in the end having a unified platform where e.g. unpaid leave days can link to payroll automatically or creation of a new employee contract automatically creates a new username and password is preferable.
