Online Link Decrypter

Hi guys

Here is a useful online tool for decrypting and analyzing short URLs.

As many of you know, often harmful websites are hidden behind short URLs. Sometimes, you may just want to see the actual link behind a short URL.

This can all be done at www.decryptlinks.com

Hope you will find it useful!

What would be nice is a browser extension, that will automatically decrypt the links for you on mouse hover, or something similar. Who really wants to copy/paste each link to verify its safety?

Thanks guys.

Browser add-ons are not quite my thing, but I am busy looking into it right now.

You mean you developed that site yourself? Well done. I like how it links to McAfee SiteAdvisor, and pulls up a screenshot. But a browser extension would be seriously awesome.

Would be especaially useful to check out all the spam I receive on Twitter. That way I can report and block spam Tweeters without needing to visit their site.

Hi Guys

I have completed two add-ons for Google Chrome and Firefox.

For Chrome you will get a small icon next to the URL bar. You simply click it to enter a short URL and it will take you, in a new page, to the website to analyze the URL.

As for Firefox, the addon will simply add DecryptLinks.com as a search engine. So, anytime you need to do a check, you can do it from your browser.

I know this is not that advanced, but will try to improve on it.

You can install the addons by visiting www.decryptlinks.com

Hi everyone

Just a quick note, I have just added support for AdFly and LinkBucks links as well.

on the chrome add on, I suggest you give focus to the textbox, else I you have to click it, which is annoying!

Good work though!

Thanks Toitjie, will take a look at it.

You can also right-click on any link on a web page and decrypt and unshorten it from the context menu as well. I added both functionalities to the addon. I am busy working on a third, which will allow users to just hover over a URL and a small popup with the real URL will appear.

I may, eventually, do away with the search field / button in the browser.

Cool,

I wanted to create my own add-on using your api :P but thought I'd rather ask you first.

So I have extended Houses chrome extension. However, I am currently still working on it and will only post in within the next day or two, depending on time.

the extension I have done, will actually replace the displayed text of a shortened url with the actual url text.

So instead of http://goo.gl/nx0GB it'll be www.facebook.com.

As you can see it still keeps the shortened url as the link. Perhaps in the future I will add an option in the settings to either replace the underlying url or keep the shortened url.
