Tokyo - Sony's game unit said Tuesday it will delay the release of a highly-anticipated online service for its PlayStation 3 game consoles.

Sony Computer Entertainment said in a press release the opening of its PlayStation Home service will now take place this autumn.

A spokesperson said the company had previously targeted summer for the launch, which the company is calling an "open beta" service. Many companies use the "beta" designation for early launches of new software products.

even though its going to be the most pointless thing ever, I really have been looking forward to it.

I just wanna have a bravia tv that I can throw around (while it plays Teen Slutz Vol XVIII for my neighbours) :(

Is that too much to ask?

Everything about this console is delayed :D
It came a year late ! Delayed !
The games get pushed back ! GT5 anyone ! Delayed
Now home gets pushed back ! Delayed !

Maybe Sony Execs will be the only people thats going to be late for their own funerals ! Cause They're Delayed :D:D:D

Maybe they all just want their virginity back, hence everything is de-laid.

Har har har, yeah I know get back in my corner.....

I guess its better to delay and give a quality product then to not delay and give a sub-standard product.Where are the 1St Xbow360's now?RrOD...

Sitting in my lounge purring away :P

I am honestly getting sick and tired of people defending the endless delays coming from Sony..

All the other developers are getting their games out on the PS3 and 360 on time or there abouts but Sony doesn't seem to be able to.

It's ridiculous and the excuses about making sure that it is a quality product just don't hold water anymore, when the games are finally released they are normally sub standard anyway... Lets stop protecting them when they make mistakes and start rewarding the proper studios... Insomniac jumps to mind and so do Rockstar, Activision and unbelievably EA for the PS3

But surely its understandable Gavin,Look at how MS has changed their console from the console they released a year before Sonys 'Delayed' PS3...now Sony's delayed console is stil going strong while MS has changed theyre non-delayed 1St console a few times.
Ive read that the reasons games are delayed are because developers are still getting to terms with the PS3's hardware and not to increase its quality.

The Xbox 360 has not been changed?
The hardware has been refined but this is a very normal process that all consoles go through. The Xbox 360 that was released on launch day has all the same features as the one I could pick up today.

The PS3 on the other hands has been heavily modified by losing internal and external hardware and features.

There are a million reasons for delays but by now the developers should have come to grips with the PS3's hardware, most of them have it's only the internal Sony developers who haven't.

I get the impression that you are heavily in favour of the PS3 but don't quite no why yet... The PS3 is a fantastic machine and will be a great addition to any gaming household, however so is the 360. Just because you like the one doesn't mean you have to dislike the other.

They are both great gaming machines.

Im not heavily in favour but after thinking about it for months i have decided to go with the PS3.Unfortunately i cant afford both so have to choose one.
Im no gaming expert, infact im a noob and from a noobs perspective the xbox360 is a more complicated buy.Reasons i say this is
1)Various different consoles, core, arcade, elite and premium make selecting one confusing.
2)Arcade costing the same as a PS2, i find that weird.
3)PS3 is outselling the Xbox even though MS has reduced the price.

Thats just my reasons but there really isnt much difdrence between the two consoles, with the PS3 you are paying more but you get a blu ray player with so at the end of the day its more or less the same price. For me Its about gaming, not which console is the best and i grew up playing Tekken,Grand Turismo,Crash Bandicoot(Kinda like ratchet & clank) and MGS on my old PSone so thats why gaming wise the PS3 represents the better choice for me.

1. You get the
Arcade - No HDD
Premium - 20Gb HDD
Elite - 120Gb HDD

2. That is the most bizarre thing I have ever read. So you are saying it's weird that the 360 is a good price or the PS2 is still overly expensive?

3. The 360 has still sold more but again I don't see the relevance...

Then you say you get the same console with a blu-ray player for the same price... I don't know about you but I see R1999 as being a lot less than R5500? Unless you have a HD TV and enjoy movies then I still see no real use for that Blu-Ray player, I am waiting for the cheaper stand alone Blu-Ray players.

The only point I completely agree with you on is in regards to the games..

If you want to play Gran Turismo, Crash Bandicoot and Metal Gear Solid then the PS3 is the way to go. I still can't handle racing games without rumble though... it just feels wrong...

1-for a noob that may be confusing, theres only one PS3 console in the shops.
2-i just find it weird, if Toshiba comes out with a 42" LCD TV that costs the same as an old 51 cm CRT TV then id also find it weird. Thats just me.
3-Not any relevance i guess but the best console will sell the most units.

And you can buy Rumble/Dualshock3 controller at take two for R460.
Im sure people were saying the same a
bout DVD when it came out, your going to wait a few years before you get cheap blu ray players, current ones cost R4000-R6000 so its a big plus that you get one with the PS3.

So for a rumbling PS3 you are now looking at R6500 ;)

I am one of the people who hasn't bought into the Blu-Ray (HD-DVD) hype. I don't see it hitting mass market this year and possibly never taking off as DVD did..

The difference between a upscaled DVD and Blu-Ray movie are just not that great. Not R4000 worth of greatness and that is what the man in the street is seeing,..

When the Blu-Ray players drop under a grand and the majority of people have a HD TV then we may see it take off. But until then you are just going to be paying over the top for a few movies to see it slightly better than the rest..

It just doesn't sell for me..

[This isn't a thing against the PS3 it's a thing against the technical marketing for HD movies]

HD is here to stay mate,by 2010 just about every home will have a HD TV and signals will be transmitted in HD. I kinda agree with you though, you dont see much of a difference but DVD's will get phased out.You can see by the ridiculously low prices that they are going for now.You can probably get a DVD player for R200.its a difficult process though as many people have invested alot of money into the DVD format(Home theatres, dvd collections etc) so it will take time.

Rumble PS3 will cost me R4900:)
Or R4400 if Makro is stil running that special(R3999)
Not too bad hey.

I have no doubt HD is here to stay, but it Blu-Ray.....

I actually got my last DVD player for R199 from Pick n Pay over 18 months ago ;)

All I am saying is that I (in my personal opinion) see no reason for Blu-Ray at the moment. In 2010 when the TV is broadcasting HD and everyone has the TV;s then I will get myself a cheap stand alone player.

I also budgeted for two rumbling controllers and the recent PS3 price increase....
If you want one get it before they become R5500 standard again....

R5k on a gaming console... I don't think I could do it to be honest, I'm cheap :P

They discontinued the 60GB a while ago.pretty hard to find a 60GB one nowadays.

Yea - quite stupid really.

We went searching for a 60GB console in January for my brother and couldn't get one anywhere. The stupid thing is that he wanted the 60GB for backwards compatibility for his PS2 and there was no alternative.

Who removes a product without having a unit that replaces it?

I've never seen the point of backwards compatibility though..

If you have a pile of PS2 games then you more than likely have a PS2 as well.. just use that.

But the whole idea of the new consoles is that we are going to be getting better games, I haven't looked at a PS2 or Xbox 1 game since moving on...
