Online purchases with FNB?

Hey guys

I'm a UCT student with a student account. When I got a debit card from FNB, I (naively) assumed I could make online purchases with it, but apparently not . What steps do I have to do to make online purchases ? Can I even do it with a student account?

Hmm I want to purchase from places like eBay as well ( like goods with cheap chinese shipping)

Thats the thing, it's not an embossed card. Can I get an embossed card with a student account though?

I think you might need to upgrade to a cheque account. They issue you with what's basically a VISA debit card with your name on it. Not sure what the benefits of a student account are - but it might be worth upgrading the account. Interest rates are a moot point with banks accounts with less than a certain amount imo - rather put some money into an Allan Gray account each month and get a more useable bank account.

I use the bank to store and have access to my money. Earn interest elsewhere.

Been wondering the same with my Sassa card which is mastercard with chip, cvv and everything yet does not work so wonder if the FNB smart savings account will work instead with paypal .

Solve all your problems and go with another bank Capitech there card can be used like a credit card for online purchases. Oh just to sweeten the pot there monthly charges are stupid cheap & swiping is free just what every student needs free shyte
