Online Shopping Fraud

Warning to all online shop owners.

There is a person that presents himself as Sean Govindin [[email protected]] that commits fraud with false proof of payments from NEDBANK that looks like the real thing. It even had NEDBANK going for a while with cross reference checks. He drives a silver PT Cruiser.

All I can say is that he succesfully scammed me out of a laptop.:mad:
 
Can you be more specific hennievr, for example, where did he scam you, what contact details did he use, the more information you provide about him, the more weiry we can be.

I mean, he can change his name, but maybe not his address or contact numbers etc.
 
He kept on phoning from a private number and he's cellphone also did not show a number, but I did not think anything of it. I walked blindly into this and got all the basic signs of being scammed wrong. The transaction went from online to an offline transaction as the product that he was looking for was not on my website and could not put it online as I was out at clients. At this stage I only have his email address which is not much help. I'm not going to reveal where the scam took place as I need more info from the place where it happened, but will do so in due course. But I must say so far it looks like he covered his tracks very well.
 
I read this post very late after he scammed me of laptops also,this time he was driving a maroon BMW dolphin going with a chick called chantelle saying she is his wife.this time he used a proof from standardbank.

it happend in woodmead at macdonalds saying he works in gallor manor and even gave me a wrong street address,he says he works for inter design in the operations department.

he kept on calling me every 2 minutes to find where i was ,weather i was bringing his laptop or not.

his days of scamming people are numbered.
 
Did you get the registration number for this car? Thinking about it he probably use false number plates. I've made a rule now to all online shoppers that I will wait for the money to clear in my bank account before I will even order the product from the suppliers. I WILL NOT accept any eft proof or bank desposit slips. If they dont like it they must go buy somewhere else. This is South Africa you cannot trust anyone.
He scammed me at one of the Shell Garages at Eastgate telling me he works in Edenvale and that he is an I.T. consultant and that he is on the road the whole time, that is why I could not deliver it at his work. What i've done is to report this to Nedbank and report the serial number of the laptop to the manufacturer. Dont know if anything will come from it, but it's worth a try.
I also run his name and serial no of the laptop on Google Ads, dont know if he uses Sean Govindin as a false name.
I believe his day will come and it will be seven times worse that what happened to us.;)

It is not true of every person one comes into contact with, but I am also quick to add, where business is concerned, one has to be extremely careful, as there are many, many people out there who has not, and never will have a conscience.

He had a go at some paintball kit and sent me a dodgy proof of payment on 28 March for R8450.
He keeps the details as sketchy as possible. He never collected because I would not release the goods before the payment cleared. We tried several times to contact him afterwards without any success. Tonight I put his address in google and found this....

The email came from [email protected]
He had this URL in his signature : http://www.illuder.com/brabys/competition.htm

He did not want to give me a phone number that we usually put on our quotes, only an email address.

Must congratulate you not to release the stock. I also adapted the policy now; I will not release any stock until the money clears. If they don't like it then shop somewhere else.
 
I've been reading this thread since you posted it Hennie and it was a good call on your part, it should help a few people out there ;)
 
I cannot really take credit for it... I have to admit I might have released it, but the missus (financial manager) is a tough one. She gets quite sticky about details sometimes and has saved my rear end a few times. This is just one of those times.

From now I'll be extra careful of people who is reluctant to supply contact details

Search Engine spam. Someone makes a forum (with copypasted stuff)
or a wiki or text copied off other sites and sells ads, banner or even
just makes the site more popular in SE's for such reasons or to act
as a gateway site for more sites.

Is there anything MyBB can do about it? It strikes me as a highly unethical thing to do (even though I appreciate in this instance it's helping to spread the news of a scammer, and probably a good thing)

I would have to agree - its cloning and unethical. AFAIK only sheep may be cloned ;)
