Online tax-filing system delayed

ROFL..... sigh.R40 million rand down the drain...... :)... and guess what i "tried" to do before i logged into Myadsl this morning. One Failed E-filing request. check.

i'll my accountant stress about that one.

However, when the facility was opened to a larger pool of taxpayers, "performance problems" with the system were noted

Hmmm??? wonder if the eNatis lot were involved somehow?

Seems like every system developed for government has "capacity" or "performance" problems.

Surley the companies who win these develpment tenders employ people with the necessary skills for capacity/performance testing??

Oh wait... it's someone's china who got the tender and they have to take 75% of the total tender value as a "consulting" fee

I'm going to take the unpopular stance in this thread, bcos IMO this is a good thing: I have been using SARS eFiling for quite a few years - although not recently, and have found it to be relatively stable and a real time saver, I'm sure that whoever the people are that develop the SARS eFiling system and sub-systems, they will get the problems ironed out without the complete rewrite needed for eNatis, at least SARS was honest about there being a problem...

agree with IC. just wait it out.. im sure it will be fine in a couple of weeks.

What I dont understand is why these guys announce to the media that it will be ready on a specific date before they've actually completed it.. Y not jst finish the bloody thing and test it before telling every1 that it will be available on so and so date... Saves a lot of blushes that way...

Atleast sars arent retards like the licensing department. They run the online version in conjunction with the already present one..

The licensing thing really pisses me off. My friend had to wait for ages at the licensing station and then they said his form was wrong. They refused to give him another form.. Woulda taken him ab 10 mins to complete a new one..
This is after waiting from like 4 in the morning or something crazy like that....

And guess wat, he jst paid some driving school to make an "early" booking for him, and he went for the drivers test in like a week... This whole system is just increasing corruption exponentially and its jst a money making scheme where ordinary people suffer and these driving schools are making a killing.

All bs...

Poor site design

I signed up a few months ago and ran into an issue with the password mechanism. Using 512 character passwords(Should be hashed anyway or website and backend should stop 1) is not liked and I could not login. Mailed a few times but was still getting a toffee.
Several weeks later I could change password and get in, however I could do nothing since I did not fax in a form from the last step. I just forgot because of the time delay. But the site does not prompt you either. Personally this old style thinking, I mean you have already given all your info, what more does a signature add? Rather interface through to the banks and cell companies since they force you to go through this approval anyway.

There is no work flow to the site, which I think is daft. Make it easy for the user. Big button saying "File tax return" and step through the process. I have not seen one to date, and still groping my way through trying to figure out where to start the process.

I am in IT and trust me, the reason people say this is because the business does not have a clue when something is going live. They suck out dates from their thumbs and force development teams to deliver. The result is slapdash and held together by sticky tape and spit.

They pay for it over time (thank the Lord) - they really pay. But they just don't get it. There is a lot of incompetence in business especially at the management levels.

Anyway good luck to SARS, they do seem to be one of the better run departments with the intention to make the taxpayers life simpler - with the ulterior motive of getting their money faster. Nonetheless, they are a world apart from the e-Natis joke.

Indeed...on a recent project the project manager at first mentioned paying overtime but then later rejected it because "Some people might abuse overtime". WTF are you saying your tell is filled with liars and cheats?!?!

Yeah...I agree 1 government department miles ahead of every other

Serious paranoia there mate.

Just a thought:

they say the e-filling system was created to make life easyer, but wasnt it just a way to get hold of your banking details and secretly check if you do declare your whole income.

Just a thought

No, that was definitely not the reason for the establishment of sarsefiling.co.za, but whatever floats someone else's conspiracy boat is their own problem - especially when the conspiracy evaporates.

SARS can get hold of your banking details without e-filing. Secondly any real fraudsters will not be using the same bank account for undeclared income and tax refunds.

I know some of the development on the system is being done by Accenture.

You'll be surprised, Some fraudsters just have the b@lls to do what they are doing.
