I have got an Vodacom 3G account through Onlinedirect that has soft cap settings and a Huawei B683 router. It is branded MTN but it is not locked since I can run a normal Vodacom SIM on it using below settings.

The router is able to connect to the network but Vodacom redirects browser to account inactive page.
http://www.vodacom.co.za/personal/main/internetinhibitor
"You currently cannot access the Internet as this service is not activated for your cellphone number."

I am not sure if its the account or my settings that is wrong.

Does anyone else here use Onlinedirect 3G through Vodacom accounts?

The settings I am using:
Dail-up number: *99$
username: *Removed*
password: *Removed*
APM: internet
IPaddress: 'Dynamic'
Authentication: CHAP
COnnection Mode: Auto
MTU: 1500

I read somewhere that the APM should be vb.onlinedirect.co.za but if I use that APN the router does not even connect to Vodacom.

Any ideas?

Hi All,

They were able to get back to me with the settings.

Seems the *99# and connection type was wrong. Who would have thought that the dial up number has to be blank.

Dial-up Number:
User Name: ***
Password: ***
APN: vb.onnlinedirect.co.za
IP Address: 'Dynamic'
Authentication: PAP
Connection Mode: Auto
MTU: 1500

Not sure how I got blinded into another out of bundle, almost a scam, service.
Not even is Online Direct's rates double than a normal prepaid data service but their pricing plan is deceptive.

Where I thought I would pay maximum R400 for 6gb the bill was around R1300 for just 3gb before I cancelled it. Fine I am a dumbass for not reading all the t&c but now its a 3 month contract so Ill just have to make sure not to go over 2gb for the next month.

Their softcap does not mean they throttle you but just bill you out of bundle for the data rate at R 0.92 per MB.

If anyone is going to look at getting their service speak to me and I can tell you horror stories.
Just get a Vodacom prepaid card and use topup only.

Have lost more then 5 thousand the last 3 month from contract accounts and out of bundle data with MTN and Online Direct.
