Not that im bothered with this, okay i am, but my Aztech Router gives me at least 11 channels to choose from. But the Dlink 225 router which i was using to test, only went as far as 9 channels.

Why is this the case? Wifi Analyzer tells me the best channels is 1 and 11 to use.

Is there some reason or the other, as to why the Dlink is only showing up 9 channels to choose from?

Cmon Bryn, i know you know the answer to this... :D

Change the country

i looked at the menu, and dont see an option to change the country for some strange reason

this is the menu i see. where exactly does one change country on this?

Because, the more channels there are available the less congestion will be experienced and the more flexibility you as a user will have to specify which channel to use for certain applications.

If you don't experience any overlapping from neighbours etc it will make zero difference if you use channel 1 or 161.

True.

But if I use an app such as wifi Analyser, in my location, I see plenty of interfering signals all around me. Some stronger than others.

If one is now for example, trying to use a wifi connection to a DSTV Explora decoder, and you let the system use any old channel, the downloads can be quite a problem with plenty of timeouts a nd slow to load.

Right now, I have 4 restaurants and nine neighbours all showing up. At night this goes up to about 15 neighbours.

Wi-Fi in the 2.4 GHz band is useless at my location.

The interference can't be that bad if you live in a house. I can understand tweaking your wifi if you live in an apartment.

Do you really have that many overlapping channels?

I am sure it could be.

I was in JHB recently (Sandton) attending a demo of a new product, where the company demonstrating could not get the wi-fi component to work as per spec at all. Two of us in the audience both checked the environment with wi-ifi analyser and showed the sales guy why he could not get his gadget to work. We then helped him identify a channel reasonably free of interference and then showed him how he could configure his equipment to lock on to that channel. Finally after 45 minutes of messing around he was able to demo his equipment .....

And that is why I have a pretty jaded view of wireless technologies --- they are just not suitable for serious connectivity. A complete waste of time in plenty of locations and the 5 GHz band is getting into the same mess.

Not for me buddy... This im just testing for my buddy. He lives in a flat and is asking me to check on this. He says that according to wifi analyzer (i showed him that app too) he doesnt see any of the channels with full stars, so the wifi is not great. Only reason im asking about this, is that ive read that normally its channel 1, 6 and 11 that you should look at.

But i cant get to 11, only 1-9, so will have to look around and see where i need to change country.
