OK, so I've got my ADSL, but now I don't know where to start.
I'm using a wireless network card to connect to my landlords router. How do I get my own local only openweb account?
Are there local DC++ servers that I could connect to?
WHat's the best site to use to game on?
Will left4dead run ok on local servers?

Is your ADSL enabled and do you have your own adsl modem/router?
If thats sorted, phone openweb and get them to activate an account for you... should be pretty quick, and u get your username and pass. then u ready to rock n roll.
DC++ and all that i dont know about sorry.
For local gaming go look at http://games.saix.net and you will find the server addresses there.

Theres ways and means to split local and international bandwidth and different accounts using just one router but u need the right hardware and the know how and you'd have to troll the forums for the right info but to be honest i wouldnt really bother.

Sounds like your options are
1) stick with your landlords connection and maybe speak to him about switching to an account that would suit both of your needs. (dunno what your usage/payment arrangements are)

or

2) use your own adsl enabled line with your own router or modem. Just want to clarify: do u have your own telkom line at the mo? and have u asked for it to be adsl enabled?

I havn't got my own line.
The reason I want my own account is because I want an openweb local only account so that I can game to my hearts content without worrying about my landlords bandwidth.

Now that I know it's possible, I am getting an IT guy to come over and sort it out for me.

Ask the landlord if you can/if the router is already in "modem only" mode? If so, then the both of you will create PPPoE connections to connect to the internet. This way you will have your own cap and he as well, but you will share the bandwith. So if you play online and he decides to youtube, your game will start to lag...
