Only have local, how do I connect to servers?

Hi BF2 dudes!

I have not played in like a year, and would LOVE to get back into it. I have moved house and all and have an IS local account only. But I can't connect to the internet via the game interface and i guess that is cus I am only on a local IS account and not on an International account.

What can I do to connect to the local servers? And what are the FTP addresses to get the patches?

i think the best thing to do is buy urself a pre-paid 1 gig from axxess or pick'n pay. and just keep that so you can log into battlefield
i think that 1 gig is like 60 or 70 bucks now...

the thing is you need a little bit of international access to get onto the bf2 stats server so it can retrieve and update your stats, to solve this problem, get a prepaid int voucher (i suggest axxess), and route sentry, set up route sentry and you will be running in no time.

for servers saix.games.net they will have all the patched etc on the ftp

i know the server i play on is 196.4.79.31 (no vehicles)

how much int cap will i need to play BF2? This is if i do not use route sentry to split caps.
 
you will not play very long,, maybe that 1 gig will be gone in 3 days, depending on how long you play for, 1 day of about 5 hours could be atleast 600 megs and up i think.

you cant play battlefield 2 without route sentry working, you have to use that local account, for you to be able to afford playing the game.
 
thats what i did i bought prepaid axxess in january this year and only used it if i needed too and it last 10 months. its good to have a backup.

Ok my landlord owns the router I use. I live nextdoor to him and he is not keen for me to do the RouteSentry method as I will have to take his ISP connection out and he will have to use the dial up method to connect to internet. He not budging :(

do you think i can start bf2 up with my 1GB INT in PPPoE, get onto server selection screen. Tab out bf2, connect to LOCAL via PPPoE and tab back into BF2 and play????

do you think that will work?
 
if you got a connection running to the router,,, i'm sure route sentry will still work for you, and if he does'nt want it then he just uses his like normal... i think the program will split it still coming through your cable and your machine


you not going to play very long on that 1 gig international....dont even waste ur time trying with that international

oh yes,,, and tell your landlaord, he is a big &^%$ing pr1ck

Nope does not work tried it. It disconnects and your back in the main menu.

thanks guys! appreciate the help...i am gonna fiddle with ol RS and see what I can come up with....i got the BF2 itch bad!:D
 
Hey man, yes you can play bf2 without routesentry, just log on to the int server using your int account, then promptly minimize and reconnect using your local :)

does this actually work....are you using it like this?....i think people have tried and it dont work...

Works for all gampespy games I tried. But I still use route sentry, for me it's the easiest way to switch accounts. But there's two things you must note.

1.You have to do the switch while the map is loading.

2.Sometimes punkbuster updates itself. So if your on local only it will fail and you'll get disconnected.
Just log in with your international until you see punkbuster have updated successfully or do a manual update of it. It's rare though that something like this happens.

I normally use route sentry for gaming in this matter since every gamespy game except Battlefield 2 reflects a 50/50 (local/international) usage on my accounts for some odd reason, even though my net monitor shows clearly everything going through local only.
This way I can make sure it only uses my local cap without getting any nasty suprises.

BF2 & Routesentry

Hi guys, I'm new to trying to set up Routesentry and RASPPPOE as discussed on the BF2 forum page on games.saix. I have followed all the instructions, made sure that my modem is bridged, installed RASPPPOE, made 2 WAN points, installed Routesentry and made 2 new connections. 1. LOCAL, 2 INTERNATIONAL. One question:

When I install RASPPPOE, it gives me 1 dial up connection through my NVIDIA NFORCE NETWORKING CONTROLLER, must I connect to this as it as it only asks me to connect to one connection, and then do i connect using my accounts through Routesentry? When I do that, it connects to one but fails the other as it says that my Router (modem) is in use. This is what it says:

17/11/2008 20:05:36 Connected to ADSL LOCAL
17/11/2008 20:05:37 error: ADSL INTERNATIONAL -> 633 The modem (or other connecting device) is already in use or is not configured properly.


It says this whether I have clicked on that Dial up Connection NVIDIA NFORCE NETWORKING CONTROLLER or not.

I am so confused as to how to get both my local and international working at the same time so that Routesentry can distinguish the 2 when I connect to the BF2 servers!

I read somewhere that I have to have my own I.P address put in manually and not automatically as it might not be able to read one of my connections, is this true?

PLEASE HELP, IT WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED!!!!!

Routesentry and RASPPPOE

No worries I finally figured it out....after adding a new connection in RASPPPOE, rename it Local, then create another connection in RASPPPOE and name it international then add the 2 connections under Routesentry. Now the guys in the Forums don't all explain this properly, no worries!

yeah i found that this sort of thing doea happen, and you have to end up doing alot of it your self......either way,, you going to learn though, having someone tell you, just makes the process alot faster.
