ONT power adapter died after loadshedding

I have my router and ONT on a UPS and it has been fine up to now. The UPS died a few minutes before the power came back on and I had not internet. After checking all the devices I noticed the ONT was dead. I tested the power output of the power adapter and instead of 12 volt it was 0.3 volt. Using another 12 volt power adapter the ONT powered on again.

Never thought I'd see the day a basic wall wart dies like that. It's not even 6 months old. Hopefully the ISP can send me a new one.

Cheap power supply or perhaps overworked due to continual charging?
 
It had a low rating, I replaced it with a 2.5A adapter from a Calix GigaCentre router. Hope it lasts longer.
 
My 2000VA Mecer sadly is not offline.
Wish it was to extend battery life during non load shedding/longer mains power periods.

EDIT. Apparently it's meant to be but when attaching devices they do not power when UPS is off.
 
Zero protection in these things. Pathetic. Looking at the one supplied with the Openserve ONT, I simply dumped it and am using the PSU originally supplied with my Billion ADSL router to power the ONT and the crappy D-LINK router supplied.
Why? Because that old PSU has the vooma to handle the load while running at about 20% of its capacity, and it has built-in Class II surge protection.

The new PSUs have absolutely zero surge protection and are running in the top 90% of capacity, in other words absolutely NO reserve to handle voltage fluctuations and surges.

The ONLY thing in favour of the ONT PSU supplied is the AC power cord which has a Clearline Surge-protected Power plug as standard fitted.

Might not be off line now, but it is a off-line type of ups. The higher end 10000va is a on-line ups.
