ONTAPtv.com in SA for R89 per month

R15 movies vs D$TV Boxoffice's R30 movies.... hmmmm. Could work if they were the newly released rental category movies. And in 1080p at an acceptable size like 1.5GB perhaps.

Would almost be an option compared to torrents.

This.. only reason i haven't signed up for ShowMax is that unless the series is current, the value proposition is not there for me(they have HBO, showtime shows).

WRT Sports, i'm thinking if there is a shake up in the sports broadcast environment, it will likely come from an online broadcaster rather than a traditional paytv on.. only exception is DTTV but since STBs wont contain encryption.. online would be the way and i'm pretty sure the people who have DSTV full package would be suitable candidates for it (cost wise). Hrm.. if i had money to throw at something as a start up, that would be it

1080p is pretty pointless at 1.5Gb. Good quality 1080p compressed with a really good algorithm is just under 5Gb...

I don't think anyone in the world offers Sports streaming, by virtue of the fact that it's live.

But I personally have no interest at all in Sports and I'm sure neither do many others, so the assumption that they will struggle...is exactly that.

Well, for starters, they are actually an African mobile vod product. It is the lack of journalism that reported it as competitor to Showmax/Netflix. We like to think we're so important.

Secondly, it is just different access to content. See it like this...a simple bread is bought from either Pnp, Spar, Checkers, a standalone bakery, or a spaza shop. There is differences in the quality, price, flavours of the vendors' bread, but everybody now have access to bread.

ESPN, MLB.TV, NFL Now, NHL, NBA and quite a few others offer sports streaming. HBO also offers sports streaming.

Depends how you see it, and you're position in the market. Afterall, not all product offerings are designed to fit you as customer.

Sure. I have no interest in sport. But I can see how a service that would add sports alongside Netflix, Hulu and ShowMax (or HBO etc) could do well. I just don't see what this offers
 
The website is now region unlocked.
Some really old content - not really competing with Showmax or Netflix
 
Seems to have some very new too though. Like Jupiter Ascending, Focus and American Sniper.
