I think HideInLight might be right:
Ah ok. That would make sense. Guess something like the Uchoose Smart M or or something.

Well its not the sites that you frequent.
Me neither. Call limits are free and can a user requested call limit can be loaded immediately after activation of a new line, provided it is lower than the default one. With call limits however if the limit is reached, it is not not data that will stop working, the line will be locked for any outgoing transactions.
Doing a upgrade will not change your user set call limit.
Well it does something Ockie. I've experienced the same thing right now. Went to Vodacom 3G store Tygervalley. Processed an upgrade but then discovered that I couldn't actually upgrade because the upgrade was only due 5 days later. Got messed around by Neville as usual... cancelled the upgrade.
All of a sudden I'm facing R700 for excess data usage. Never happened before, never had an issue, just now - after the attempted upgrade.
Why?
The device is an iPad by the way.

We should make a banner against OOB
Starting the kickstarter. R100 donations are accepted.
Just a quick update on this.
Managed to get most of the amount credited ~ R3k odd and the data used to be converted to a bundle.
Special thanks to @Jan,@AfricanTech and a couple other forumites that would prefer to remain anonymous for their advice and help.
Hints :
1. Never call the call-centre. HelloPeter the issue and send a mail to customercare@vodacom.co.za
2. If the above fails, drive down to the head office and explain to a friendly consultant. Ask him to escalate the query.
3. Post on myBB and pray someone can assist.
This shows that Vodacom must not allow OOB for people who have bought a bundle. Why don't they charge in bundle and then lock you after a time limit
They're struggling to implement it on certain types of contracts.
Apparently prepaid (where it does work) works on a different system from post-paid (where it doesn't work)
It's been years and years and years though. If you search back you'll get comments from Jannie that they are working on it. I'd venture a guess at least five years back. Anyone up for the challenge to find it?
Only got entries back up to 2 years back but then again I'm lazy.

- We're working hard on a real-time locking capability for Contract.
