OOB shark has got me :( Please Help

So why is there no data cap option? Seems it's what consumers really want and actually need...

Best I would be able to do is load a call limit . Once this limit of usage is reached the system will lock the line for all outgoing transactions. This is a best effort service. Minimim limit is R50.00

Thanks Ockie - call centre has just done that for me.

So explain to me if this is correct:

Smartcall 229

- 20 minutes voice
- 150 sms
- 150 meg data

If the data goes over 150 meg, the OOB will keep ticking until another R50 worth is used and then all data will stop.

Hold on, What do you mean "best effort" - does this mean it can go over R50?
If so, by how much? (LTE is off)
Why is R50 the lowest? Can't it be set to R10?

The BillShock = 2K :( - 2K! - I don't know about anyone else but I certainly can't afford to just throw 2K away (it happened back in June so I probably won't be able to prove whether the sms came through in time or not - I'm therefore swallowing the 2K  but I certainly don't want a repeat of this disaster.

Fckit man, 2K is almost 9 months worth of the bloody subscription
[Jeez, apologies for the outburst in the line above, but it really, really burns]

It can go over as contract data billing is not real time as prepaid. I do think Vodacom have brought the delay down substantially though. Once the billing updates and the system sees that your R50.00 limit is reached it will lock the line. Line gets opened again automatically beginning of next month when counters reset.

I really have no idea. They have an acronym for every breath you take. I'm currently trying to get clarity from them about this as well...

cousin had roaming charges of over 10k. i was like :wtf: and this was just data related

Yes, it's called Call Limit Lock and locks the account on Rand-value. So you set CLL to say R50 and it'll soft-lock at that point. Think you can set it up on the portal.

On TopUp (and Prepaid) it's easier as you can only use services that you either subscribe to (like the voice minutes or data bundle) and if there is no money in the purse, you cannot go OOB on either.

The thing that catches too many people with smartphones is the hotspot feature. Because it's automatic, once configured, it can account for very high data usage. So please check that's it's not enabled if not explicitly needed.

So, with a Smartcall 229 which cost's R229 per month, do I set the CLL to R229?

I can confirm that the hotspot is NOT on the phone that incurred the 2K BillShock (however, since I can't guarantee what it is on the phone that caused the overrun, I'm sucking it up ) but I cannot afford for it to happen again.

Please advise.

Thanks

Don't complain about What the cost of OOB rates are cause it cost me more than just R2000.00.

In the last three months it has crippled my small business to brink of closure, returned debit orders for my car and to add insult to injury, eviction from our home due to debit orders by Vodacom that depleted my cash flow and hard earned founds in small business account repeatedly since December 2012.

Waking up to R24000.00 / R14000.00 debit orders two months in a row is not only dis heartening but also breaks the last bit of ones spirit, considering the times we living in. I am sure that not a single employee or management of Vodacom has a Cell Account this high, be advised the month of june 2013 till present my lines has been soft blocked making them just another 10 Digit numbers
having no value. It also comes with free minutes, limitless calls and sms's but you cant use them.
