So my work moved to new premises. Where it was previously 11kms to work (22kms per day) I now have to toddle 50kms per day off (to work and back). :erm:

On Hans Strydom drive in Pretoria there are certain sections (such as the long uphills and narrow roads) which my scoot is a bit pap. Also you get the inconsiderate roadhog cagers who tend to sniff your exhaust fumes, especially on long downhill sections. Scoot can only do 120km/h max.:sick:

So now I got the following options :

1. Upgrade the scoot from 125cc to 150cc. (I assume that you get a kit to do so? And that no fancy machining is needed?)
2. Buy a 2nd hand 250cc scrambler/whatever which will be able to handle the longer trip
3. Buy a brand new 2-wheeler.

At this stage it is still playing around. Budget (at this stage) is R250 a month :(
Might change at a later stage to a bigger sum.

What other options do I have? A car will be much more expensive than a scoot. I've roughly calculated - it will be 1000kms per month (give or take a few) which I have to toddle off to work. IMO it is best to have cheap transport and drive the *** out of it than buying an expensive car and drive that to bits.

You're in Pretoria right? Check out perfectbikez.co.za for their physical address. (It's somewhere on Voortrekker) - They've usually got good bikes and offer installments.

Don't go by the online catalogue, it's always outdated.

How can any sane entity consider the energy expended on a 100km round trip every single day be reasonable?

Cool, thanks, will go have a look :D

And I'm in Pta. :)

Don't bother upgrading your scoot. I don't think its worth it.
Get a 250cc.
I prefer bikes to scooters. They pull away better if you need to get out of trouble (cages driving crap and too close to you).
The scrambler types are alright, even the 200cc's although 50kms sitting upright might not be too great on your back.

Lift club won't work as people don't always work from 8 to 5. We asked around, and the conclusion was that it just won't work. Differencing work loads and panicky situations (deadlines) will ensure that.

why did your offices move ? can you get a raise due to distance to be covered each day ?
yah rather dont go on your scooter hey, 50 km is a lot each day. rather get some cheapish 200 250 cc bike... good luck mate

Raise? For travelling to work?
Unless you're like the owner's pet dog, we aren't elligible for reimbursement of those k's we drive.... thanks to SARS/Minister of Finance it's known as "private mileage" :(

Oom Ook, Beware of the taxis, they will drive you off the scooter. Get something than can maintain a constant speed faster than the taxis. Please Oom Ook!

Advertise for a lift club by offering lifts and see how much income can be gained by matching it to a cheap toyota corolla purchase. Chances are that whoever will enrol for you lift club will be travelling for a minimum of the rest of the year, maybe 20 years after...
