Libs, try your best to avoid taking the BP medication. Once they get you started on that, it just goes from bad to worse. BP medication has different side-effects and they often keep switching the types or the dosage to find one that is right for you. Not good.

Try to change your lifestyle in whatever way is needed to lower your BP.

+100 Once you get started the merry go around won't stop . Lifestyle changes nows.

The cath probably cleared the obstruction and everyone tells you to drink like fishes.

Something about the MED AID There are certain conditions called Prescribed Minimum Benefits and ALL medical aids have to pay out for these conditions even if you are on probation. (Normally its 3 months) but some pre existing conditions are subject to further waiting periods - like a year, it covers the medical aids ass if someone joined to claim for a pre existing condition that is costly to treat. BUT PMB prescribed minimum benefits if I am not mistaken covers quite a list of inflictions and emergencies so check what your diagnostic codes were against these.- if they got it wrong call them out.

Nowes you have a cure. Doesn't it have a sock and a bottle?

All true.
Also once you are on that medication, your medical aid premiums will go up. Because you are seen as a higher risk. So side effects aside. It makes financial sense to try to eat healthier, get more exercise, take more chill time etc....

Welcome back, Libs. Good to hear you're mending well... at least physically. The psychological side might take a wee whille longer.

Already I feel much more relaxed and better being at home. And also because somebody else (from our church) offered to pay the outstanding bill - which we really do appreciate. A big load off my back.

And that's probably the best news of it all. Nice.

1 year probation on your medical aid!!!!! How come?

Medical aids will usually do this if there is a pre-existing condition which is declared / discovered to / by them when they take you on.

1 year wait...jeez. Did you previously not have cover or something?

Your medical aid is really playing hard ball. Even though you're in the exclusion period, PMB should still be covered as per this MSA appendix:
+1 Tell the medical aid to pay up or get sued to hell.

Apparently cranberry juice (real, not flavoured) and pumpkin seeds are beneficial for those of the male persuasion....just in case you want to go that route.

You quite obviously haven't the slightest clue of the most sensitive part of the male anatomy and what relief shoving a tube up it will bring. In the old days they used things called "sounds" but I'm not going there :erm::D

Went to Steve Biko.

Dr there told us all their urologists are very busy, long waiting period. :(

At least he put a catheter in.... so now it's one thing least which I have to worry about. No need to stay at hospital.

Same doc says we must go tomorrow to Pta Academic and get a prostate examination and blood test.

I'm thinking once I get those results, to bother the medical aid that it was NOT a BP issue, but a prostate problem from the beginning....

And yes, will be changing my lifestyle. Not worth dicking around with BP stuff...

Premiums are fixed, the same for all members. If the rates go up then it will be for everyone.

Well the medical aids employ people whose job it is to make it as hard as possible for the customer to know what they're paying for. They also flat out lie to avoid paying a valid claim. Just like insurance companies.
