The Tappet cover?

This is not a functioning component, its just a cover it doesn't have any behaviour.

That's the confusing part, I think perhaps that's not the whole story, I still think the gasket was faulty allowing oil to get into the spark plugs, and consequently into the combustion chamber.

It still has to be airtight even though it's not an active part, right?

The valve controlling the airflow was the problem. Can only replace the entire tappet cover and not the valve only. That’s the expensive component

Ahh, strange that's a serviceable part, should need to replace the whole tappet cover.
