Opel astra starting problems

Good Morning

Can anybody please point me in the right direction
i have an opel astra estate 1.6 i 1997,i ran out of petrol and the car stalled,after throwing in petrol it still does not want to start.I threw in injector cleaner and replaced the petrol filter and still does not want to start.A few months back i had a similar problem in that it used to swing the engine but did not start,i replaced the fuel relay and that worked.
Is it possible that it could be the relay again?
WhaT else could be the problem and how do i go about troubleshooting to find the problem

lol its definitely fuel injected...
Any ideas what it could be?
 
My 1990 Opel Monza 1.6GSi was feul injected. Got 15-16km/l, the ECU just died every 30K km wich was rather annoying.
 
1. Check for spark
2. Crank the engine and smell the exhaust for fuel.

One is missing
 
ok cranking the engine and smelling for fuel is easy enough,how do i check for spark
 
Stupid suggestion, but it has worked for me on a 2001 Astra, disconnect the battery for a minute then reconnect and try again. Sometimes all your Opel needs is a reboot.

is there anyway that one can test the fuel pump relay
 
You should be able to do that with an OPCOMM diagnostics plug and a laptop. I did that on my old Astra and when you do the fuel pump test you will hear the fuel pump switching on and the voltage reading will also indicate if it is on.

Pull off a plug wire, hold close to engine, crank and check for spark (easier to check when it is dark). Do not touch the body.... when doing so as it will give you a nice strong jolt.

Touching the body will tell you if you've got a spark, even in bright sunlight...
 
Good Morning All

Last night i got to work on my car a bit and noticed that petrol was not being pumped through to the engine,there is liitle nozzle on throttle body that resembles a tyre nozzle for air,when i swing the engine over i pressed the little nozzle to see if petrol was coming and it was bone dry.
i already replaced petrol filter and and fuel pump relay.
i think my petrol pump needs to be replaced,am i correct in saying this or could it be something else
Petrol costs R1500,dont think the wife is going to be happy thats one of the many reasons i have to be sure before buying petrol pump
