Opel astra starting problems

the car has 260 000 km +,i got the car on 250 000 km so i cant give you any other history about the car,i didnt hear anything when i switch on the car.

When you turn the ignition to ON you should hear a whine or whizzing sound. That is the fuel pump, it needs to get the pressure in the fuel line up so the car will start. If you hear nothing then your fuel pump is dead. Personally I would never buy any car with that mileage on, especially not an Opel. Best of luck.

Sounds like the fuel pump may be blocked from sucking the dirt at the bottom of the petrol tank when you ran out of petrol. While you may get lucky and be able to clean it out (I've done this before with some Q20 squirted into the fuel line just before it enters the pump) your best bet would be to replace it.

Thanks....
My pertrol pump is in the tank, could you please explain how to squirt Q20 into fuel line,i will give it a try(payday still two weeks away before i can replace fuel pump)I have never removed the back seat and open up to see waht it looks like

Thank You

Yeah, you wouldn't be able to do that on one of those fuel pumps, then. I was fortunate that the car in question had an externally and easily accessible fuel pump.

Can anyone please explain what it entails replacing a petrol pump, one that sits in the tank

1997 Opel Astra estate 1.6i pertol pump sits in the tank.Tank is underneath backseat

Oh no,its not underneath the seat,i was convinced it is cos everyone said so only to find solid plate.
is there anywhere else i can look

Please go to a knowledgeable person before you spend another fortune on unnecessary spares as it is obvious that you can't diagnose the fault yourself and no one on this forum is able to do it over the internet without seeing the car. Our suggestions are only thumbsucks which can become rather costly and might even aggravate your problems.

Ok thanks, just wanted to know if anybody knew where it is located

Hi
