Hiya!

Looking for a reasonably priced second hand car, that’s still got a bit of kit in it and I’ve been eyeing the Corsa.

Price range is around R160k and I can find some reasonably low mileage examples.

I had the Adam before and I really enjoyed it but the seats and stiff suspension, alongside 18” low profiles were murder on my dodgy back.

Just wanted some opinions on reliability and maintenance costs?

Obviously comfort is subjective so I’d have to drive one and see how it compares.

Input and alternatives welcomed :)

Well for R160k you could also get a real car. If you want a corsa you should get a R40k corsa from the 90's. Spending more than R100k on it is slightly silly.

Please give me examples of the real cars you speak of?

Alot of brand bashers here hey. Who dont really give viable alternatives (with similar year models and warranty/backup).
I think they solid cars, decently specc'ed. It will definately be more comfortable than the adam in the spec you mentioned. Can you not get a vehicle to test for a weekend?

You really cant compare a 2009 Getz to a 1.0 turbo opel thats 8 years newer. In any way! now if his intention was a practical car at a bargain price, yes the getz is cool.

What else is the intention with a hatch other than a practical run around for in town? Why pay R100k more for it?

If he's a bawler and just rolling in cash then fine get something flashy for image. I wouldn't go with opel or Hyundai in that case.

1. He used an ADAM (modern car) as a starting point
2. He has a budget
3. He mentiones "intellilink" meaning there's something appealing about technology.

Comfort isnt just about how soft your seat foam is, its also convenience and features. and that doesnt mean bawling. I drove a Polo Vivo that has No features, didnt feel great at all. at the price point he mentioned, same year model.

I think it's the enjoy, as long as it's got alloys and the intellilink I reckon.

If you can, rather get the car from Gauteng, You will be able to get the Cosmo variant with lower Mileage.

I'm just giving some practical advice. People spend way to much on cars especially small crap cars.
If you value the functionality/Technology of linking your phone to your car radio at R100k then fine. Use the Gets as a base for what you can reasonably get and build on that.
The adam was also a bad choice. You shouldn't build on a bad choice.

Im not entirely sure why you frequent a motoring forum. Logic applies less and less to vehicle purchases if you have a certain level of enthusiasm. Otherwise everybody would be driving a box with 4 wheels and nothing more. Budgets, tastes and such differ. He clearly has some luxury items/specs thats important, nor can you judge someone for being ok with spending XYZ on features/performance/luxury, otherwise why be on a motoring forum . Once again, i still see no viable comparable option relative to what the OP asks?

A old gets is a viable comparison. What does the new corsa do that's better and how much is that worth? If that person taste aspect is valued at so much more and you have the money, then fine. I'm not judging anyone who can afford it. Only those that can't.

Interestingly enough, I was looking at buying my aging parents a car. Wanted something will automatic everything. and at a similar price point. Ended up being a Kia Rio, which not only came in Auto, had leather seats, xenons and electric everything. The Koreans Used to make amazing value cars. I say used to as their pricing is becoming german.

I get your point. It is however made on the assumption that the buyer cant afford paying more than R59k
