Morning Guys

Lately my Little corsa lite 2008 1.4 has been giving me problems

-Intermittent cutting while driving
-Excessive power loss at low revs and uphill driving
-Funny idle
-High fuel consumption
-Engine light stays on

I have been going through alot of threads, youtube vids etc and all issues regarding faulty MAP sensors have been common with my symptoms. The other day i tried to locate the map sensor and disconnect it while the car was on idle.

The funny idle stopped and the car idle's fine. did more research and came across that if the map sensor is disconnected and the car idle's then the map senors needs to be replaced as the ECU is running on backup***something like that***

I have been calling around trying to source a map senor but been getting different qoutes from GM 4500,2200,3200 etc...
Can anyone advice as to where I can get a map senor at the fraction of those quotes?

Thechamp...i had not tried them.

Just got off the phone with Goldwagen Alberton its going for R600, you a life save my Champ...

Thanks!

Hey are u sure its the map sensor?
Ive had those symptoms on my corsa lite and it was the coil pack.
Plz do let me know if it was the map sensor so if i get it again i can use that as a diagnosis

today things turn for the worse

-Engine check light turned off
-Idle SHOT up to 2k and 3k...
-Engine temp shot up slightly

Had the throttle cleaned and replaced the idle valve

Engine light went away,
Idle is constant

Will be taking it for a drive tonight, to see

Excessive power loss at low revs and uphill driving
High fuel consumption
Intermittent cutting while driving

Never in my life has my car been such pleasure to drive.

Took him to PTA and Vaal in 1 night, not once did it cut. Engine light has not been on, idle is as silent and stable then before, the needle has not been past 160k's in awhile but friday we did 160 and beyond with easy.

Its safe to say that my issue's were mos def triggered buy the idle valve, we tried cleaning it out but that did not work, a replacement and cleaning of the throttle did the trick. For less then 250 @ Goldwagon my troubles were resolved...

Cool, happy motoring don't forget to post a pic here if or when your Corsa is at 200 000 kms, https://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/460887-The-200-000-km-thread/page26?highlight=200k+km

Mine at post #389, Let's own that thread comrades.

Sho Gents,

Just an update with the changes i have done recently, cars is at 163000km, still have not replaced my map sensor,

*coilpack and leads.

*Starter replaced
Intermittent starting, got worse when car was hot.

*CV boots
Massive Oil leaks in inner front wheels, boots were torn upon inspection

*Shocks
Rear shock dislodge from mounting, replaced all four.

*Exhaust and Manifold.
Car rarely released smoke from the back, interior panel housing the hand break would heat up excessively during short trips due catalytic converter clogging. manifold starter cracking.

*Cleaned Idle valve, o2 senors, throttle body.
Only noticed Engine check lite lighting very dim at night.

Apologies for jacking the thread. Followed a map test i saw elsewhere, where it says to check voltages. I followed that, got my 5v on the outer 2 pins and centre pin is the variable. Now the post says to power on ignition, measure voltage on outer 2 pins....i get my 5v. In fact its more like 6v. Ignition on I ground the neg on the MM and pos of MM goes to centre pin. While gently sucking on the air pipe going into the map sensor, it should drop to 0V. Thing is....if I ssuck any harder, im going to blow my balls. Even with teeth out I cannot suck hard enough to get it below 4.5v. Is this normal or should it have gone to 0V with a light suck.

And let the games begin!

I have read about testing map sensors but it's not something I ever had to do, what's wrong with the car?

Make a set of backpin probes - solder a wig t pin or sewing pin to a crocodile clip

Insert into the back of the map sensor - try not to damage the insulation of the wiring.

Check the voltages as the car is running - accelerate and check the voltage differences. I use a vacuum gauge to check - the cheap adendorff one.

Morning all. Car is running rich, 10 mins while driving this car gives you a headache and a half.
Measured map sensor outer pins with ignition On. The two outer pins give me just over 6v which shows there is power going to the unit. Measured center pin to ground its at 6v, and with vac hose disconnected from throttle body, and me sucking on that end, I can barely get that voltage to drop below 5v. Guys.....you dont understand how hard I sucked on that pipe. Thought I was going to suck in my eyeballs. Dont have a vacuum gauge unfortunately

Car is extremely heavy on fuel. Plugs foul easily, exhaust pitch black, even after a long drive
